1) Unlock O.T.T.O sooner.Whether you like the second base in Clash or not, unlocking it improves your home village progression speed. Getting O.T.T.O Hut to level 5 allows you to have O.T.T.O be a builder in the Builder Base, thus allowing your master builder to function as a second builder in the Builder Base, or a sixth builder in the Home Village. Having him at the Home Village helps more, since your progression speed in the Home Village is bottlenecked by time.

2) Builder Base matchmaking is solely based on trophy count.Unlike home village multiplayer matchmaking (where TH level also determines which bases you'll see), Builder Base matchmaking (aka the system that determines who'll be your opponent) only looks at your trophy count and nothing else (after a certain range in trophies). That means that a BH7 can be matched by a BH9 if they have similar amounts of trophies. Hence, you'll be better off as a rushed BH9 than as a maxed BH7, as the rushed BH9 is far stronger than a maxed BH7 despite taking lesser time to accomplish.

3) Bottlenecked by loot. The only way of getting loot in Builder Base, excluding buying them with gems or packs, is by: a) Winning three times in battles each time the Win Bonus is available. b) Getting them from Collectors. c) Using Runes of Builder Loot. d) Season Challenges generally offer 1M Builder Gold and Builder Elixir per month.

As you can see, loot is quite limited in the Builder Base compared to the Home Village. In fact, rushing benefits all three methods of gaining loot. Higher trophies grants larger win bonuses, higher BH level unlocks higher level collectors which grants more loot, and runes are more effective with a larger storage, which is only available at higher BH levels.

1) Rush to BH9. As explained above, higher BH level boosts your progression in general, and you can unlock O.T.T.O faster as a result.

2) Your collectors are very important. You may be able to get away with not upgrading collectors in the Home Village, since you can always raid a lot to fill your storages. However, loot is limited in the Builder Base, and you want as much of them as you can.

3) Use a one troop-type army. Loot is limited, and researching troops takes loot. Therefore, you want to minimize the amount of loot spent to improve your army. Remember that you only need to max one type of troop to already be effective, researching more is just a waste of loot and time. Pick only one type of troop to carry you all the way to BH9, whether that'll be Raged Barbarians, Baby Dragons, or Beta Minions.

4) New Defences > Upgrading old ones. New defences at each new BH level adds more DPS in your base than upgrading old ones. As an example, let us assume you have 2 level 3 double cannons at BH7. Combined, they can output 206 DPS. Now, you can either upgrade the Double Cannons to level 6, which costs 5.36M Builder Gold, and gains 66 DPS in total...or you can just place the new Double Cannon available at BH8 and gain 84 DPS right away at a small cost of 20k Builder Gold.

5) Gold Pass is incredibly helpful. You get to cut down the loot and time cost of upgrades, shortening your time required to obtain O.T.T.O. With it, you can strategically ignore certain storage upgrades at BH levels, allowing you to use said loot to upgrade other more impactful buildings to speed up O.T.T.O even faster.

Before we proceed to the actual guide, know that the advantages to rush and the tips above also applies to the Home Village, actually. Rushing is just as beneficial in the Home Village as it is in the Builder Base.

Alright, with this info in mind, let's now begin our rushing journey, from BH2 all the way to unlocking O.T.T.O, and eventually maxing the Builder Base as well.

Note: Other than specified upgrades (and clearing obstacles once you're at a high BH level), Do not upgrade other items as loot is limited. If you're overflowing in Elixir, you could start a lab upgrade, ideally Cannon Carts, as soon as your Builder Barracks is level 7.

The most optimal rushing here would involve a few steps, each time you went to a new Builder Hall level.

Note: If you unlock another Army Camp at that Builder Hall level (BH2, BH3, BH4, BH7, BH8), always prioritize on unlocking it first. If you need to upgrade your Elixir Storage in order to do so, then upgrade your Elixir Storage so that you can store enough Builder Elixir to build the army camp.

After that, try to build the rest of your new buildings, only upgrading your storages if you can't store enough loot to afford the new building.

(1) Your collectors in general. Always prioritize upgrading these once you build your new buildings.

(2) Your Storages. Only upgrade your Gold Storage enough to store loot to upgrade Builder Hall, and only upgrade your Elixir Storage enough to store loot to upgrade your Gold Storages.

(3) Your Builder Hall. We want to get to BH9 as fast as possible, so upgrading your Builder Hall once you're able to is encouraged.

(4) Since Builder Base bottlenecks you on loot, you'll occasionally find yourself unable to complete a builder gold upgrade while your builder elixir is overflowing, or vice versa. If you have excess gold, upgrade your Clock Tower while waiting for enough elixir to build/upgrade your stuff. If you have excess elixir, upgrade your Star Lab while waiting for enough gold to build/upgrade your stuff.

(5) Unlocking the Battle Machine is highly encouraged in BH5, as it gives a boost in trophies thanks to the increased offense power. In BH6, you can upgrade it to Lv5, where it'll unlock its special ability, Electric Hammer. It is recommended that you do not upgrade it any further until BH9.

(6) While waiting for your Builder Hall to upgrade, you'll probably find yourself with more builder elixir. In this case, focus on the one troop that you'll be using all the way till O.T.T.O is unlocked. There are three main troop type worth considering:

Note: All listed attacks are not the only meta attacks available for high Builder Base ladder! These are just some more well known ones.

You finally reached the destination of your rush! Our upgrade order will be based on unlocking O.T.T.O first, and coincidentally unlocking O.T.T.O is also the best way to progress our Builder Base in general, so let's get to it! 1) Build new buildings.

2) Upgrade Collectors.

3) Upgrade your Star Lab. You need this to achieve Cannon Cart Lv18, one of the O.T.T.O requirements.

4) Upgrade your Clock Tower to Lv9. This is a valuable upgrade, allowing to gain more loot per day by boosting your collectors with it.

5) Upgrade your Elixir Storages. Yes, you don't need to upgrade any Elixir Storage to upgrade your Battle Machine, and only one Elixir Storage upgrade needed to upgrade Cannon Cart to Lv18. However, upgrading both Elixir Storages allows you to store more Builder Elixir in one go, allowing you to manage your elixir upgrades easier. Your O.T.T.O bottleneck is Builder Elixir after all, due to the massive elixir cost required to upgrade both Cannon Carts and Battle Machine. You probably can spare some Builder Gold to upgrade both of them.

6) If you do not have the Gold Pass, then upgrade both Gold Storages, as they are required to upgrade your Mega Tesla to the final level, which is a requirement of O.T.T.O. However, if you do have the Gold Pass, you can actually skip on both Lv9 Elixir Storage upgrades, as the cost of Lv9 Mega Tesla will reduce to 3.84M Builder Gold from 4.8M Builder Gold. A Hammer of Building can also be used on this upgrade, however I personally would not recommend such because you are using it on a 5 day upgrade when it can be used in the Home Village to make a 14-19 day upgrade instead. Either way, you get to save the Builder Elixir needed for Storages and use them to upgrade your Battle Machine/Cannon Carts instead.

7) It's time to work on your O.T.T.O requirements! Upgrade your Battle Machine when you have enough Builder Elixir. When you have excess Builder Gold, upgrade your Mega Tesla. If your Builder Elixir is overflowing while your builder is busy, upgrade Cannon Carts in your Star Lab.

Once your Mega Tesla is maxed and your Builder Gold is overflowing, be sure to upgrade the following defense:

After you completed these upgrades, spend your Builder Gold on defenses/traps that help defend you based on what you're getting attacked by. Drop Ships and Minions? Upgrade your Firecrackers and Air Bombs. Getting annoyed by Night Witch spam? Some extra levels in your Lava Launcher and Roaster would suffice. Your base getting rolled by Super P.E.K.K.As? Double Cannons and Crushers are your friend.

Reminder here! Make sure that your Home Village Cannon, Archer Tower and Mortar are at least Lv7, Lv10 and Lv8 respectively! They need to reach these levels before being eligible for gearing up. Mortar Lv8 requires you to be TH10, meaning if you're TH9 or below, you cannot unlock O.T.T.O at all! That said, it wouldn't harm to start working on it anyways, as the benefit of getting your sixth builder is great.

Another note: If you have Books of Building/Everything, it is wise to use them on the Archer Tower gear up and the Mortar gear up, which takes 7 days and 14 days respectively. Having the Master Builder be gone for that long can result in you having excess builder base loot, which is very bad for unlocking O.T.T.O and Builder Base progression in general. (Hammers of Building can't complete gear ups!)

That said, there is a way to gear your Archer Tower without using a book nor wasting builder base loot, if your Cannon Cart is not maxed. Empty your Gold Storages by upgrading Walls, then send your Master Builder to gear up your Archer Tower. While you will slowly accumulate Builder Gold, you can use the Builder Elixir to upgrade Cannon Carts!

A similar process can be achieved with the Mortar gear up, however unlike the Archer Tower gear up, you are 100% going to waste Builder Gold due to the process taking 14 days instead of 7 days. Only do this if you are uninterested in progressing Builder Base further than unlocking O.T.T.O.

Once you unlocked O.T.T.O, if you're still interested in continuing Builder Base, upgrading your Gem Mine next gives you an additional source of Gems in addition to removing Obstacles and selling certain Magic Items. Those gems helps your Home Village too, so better get them done sooner than later would be preferable!

After that, unlocking all troops in the Builder Barracks gives you a variety of armies to choose from once you sufficiently level those troops up! (or having a Power Potion effect, by upgrading TH or using a Power Potion) You will have completed all Builder upgrades that uses Builder Elixir upgrades (sans Walls Lv7-9), so you can focus your Builder Elixir in your Star Lab, while you can use your Builder Gold to upgrade your defenses/traps to improve your base!

For troops, here's a nice path on what troops to upgrade depending on your starting troop!

For defenses, you can utilise breakpoints to get the most out of your defense upgrades!

Versus Battles don’t cost you any resources, neither in training troops nor by losing any loot that your opponent can take away from you.

On the other side, you’re limited to 3 victories per day that will give you Gold and Elixir that you can use to upgrade.

The most important thing is to be as high as possible in trophies in your Builder Base, because the higher you get, the more daily loot you can get from doing Versus Battles! I often see people doing Versus Battles when their Battle Machine is upgrading or they have a very important defense upgrading, like the Roaster or Giant Cannon.

This is not the smartest decision as this will cause them dropping a lot of trophies that will result in lower daily loot in the future because they have to climb back the ladder.

So here’s you upgrade strategy for these kind of upgrades that are elementary for your defensive or attacking action (Battle Machine, Roaster, Giant Cannon and Air Bombs):

You can always gather an additional daily loot period when not using it:

In addition, you should ALWAYS use your Clock Tower Boost even if you don’t attack, as it will take a lot of time off the clock for your upgrades & lab research:

Now let’s talk about upgrading your Builder Base.

First of all, upgrading your Builder Base is something that you can do, you don’t need to. Your Builder Base is not deeply connected to your Home Village, but you will gain the ability to gear up your defenses in your Home Village.

To learn more about the gear-ups, please check out my article here that shows that they are not that strong as they might appear:

A very important thing is the question about rushing. Should you wait and max out every Builder Hall Level before you upgrade the Builder Hall?

We all learned from our Town Hall, that rushing is something that will take revenge on you later. In your Builder Base, it’s different!

First of all, the Builder Hall won’t let you upgrade before you build all the buildings for that level.

If you rush your Town Hall in your Home Village, you will face loot penalties against bases with lower Town Halls and lose a lot more resources on defense, because your base is simply not strong enough to hold up against an attacker with properly upgraded troops and Heroes.

These penalties don’t apply to your Builder Base, since you don’t lose any resources on defense and the loot you gain is based on your Trophy count.

Also, the matchmaking is based primarily on the amount of Trophies, so having a higher Builder Hall Level will give you the advantage of having more attacking power plus additional defenses that will result in more victories.

An additional Army Camp or defenses like the Giant Cannon will boost your power so much that there’s no reason to max out each Builder Hall Level.

I recommend going to the next Builder Hall Level as soon as you have all defenses to your current Builder Hall Level -1 (e.g. go to BH6 if you have all defenses at Level 4).

With every new Builder Hall Level you will see a lot of new buildings available, so let me help you finding the best order to get them.

The first priority you should have is upgrading your Storages to have the ability to get enough Elixir to get all Army Camps available.

Each Army Camp will boost your attacking power a lot and give you a huge advantage in Versus Battles, so make sure to have as many of them complete as available.

New defenses are always better than upgrading for multiple reasons:

Here you can see the Archer Tower stats – for 12k Gold you get 35 DPS  and upgrading only boost by 4-5 DPS for a lot more resources.

Especially the strong unique defenses like Roaster, Giant Cannon, Mega Tesla will give your base a lot more defensive power.

Mines & Collectors are cheap and fast to upgrade and the sooner you do it the higher your profit will be.

Every new level gives you up to 36k Gold or Elixir per day additionally – so that’s 1 million per month extra and will help you with upgrading your other buildings.

If possible, you should combine a lab upgrade with an ongoing troop upgrade.

It might now be something you can see, but if you start an lab upgrade when you have an ongoing troop upgrade going on it will both continue upgrading.

There are some additional days you can save by doing that 🙂

It takes up to 68 days until a new level of Clock Tower returns the investment in time & resources, I have been writing this in my full guide about the boosts in Clash of Clans that you can read here.

So this is nothing you should focus on early at a new Builder Hall Level.

The same for the Gem Mine, the additional little amount of more Gems you get is simply not worth it.

By the way, if you always collect the Gems from your Gem Mine when available, you will lose a lot of Gems from it.

So if your Gem Mine did produce for let’s say 15 hours, so (if it’s lvl 1) it generated 1.3 Gems but you will collect only 1 gem from it. In this case the production got reset and you wasted 0.3 Gems (every day!) which will add up.

I always follow a basic rule when upgrading my defenses, depending what the defense can target and how much the damage depends on DPS.

As an example, a Cannon can only target ground units so the Archer Tower or Hidden Tesla is a better choice – the Giant Cannon overkills anyway so the Roaster is a better choice with the constant damage as it will deal more constantly.

Here’s my priority:

Here are by the way up to date base designs you can use (updated every 2 weeks):

Always upgrade the supporting troop first, as you can use them with multiple setups. You can combine Barbarians with Bomber, Giants, Cannon Carts etc.

The same with Minions as they work With Drop Ships, Night Witches or Baby Dragons.

This one is simple. In the main base, it is not very difficult to raid enough that you are capped with gold and elixir and are simply waiting for workers to be free. Worker time is the scarce resource in the main base leading some people to ignore collectors altogether since gold and elixir are not scarce and they do not want to waste worker time upgrading collectors that don't add any value.

In the BH, collectors account for approximately 25% of your daily income. Ignoring collector upgrades will cost you ~20k/day which is what one would get by pushing to the next trophy range. This is an unbeatable value when you also incorporate how little investment there is in upgrading them. There is no defensive upgrade that will increase your trophy count by 200, so always upgrade your collectors almost immediately (more on the 'almost' later).

This is the one tip I wish someone had told me. Focus on upgrading a single unit: barbiarians. It is common to want to upgrade everything and have several available strategies, but the truth is, they're all bad until they are at a high level. To compete at a higher trophy range, you need a higher level unit available. If you're BH5 and you google 'best BH5 attacks' it might say something like 'Baby Dragons' or 'Archers and Giants' or 'Giants and Cannon Carts.' This might be true, but their upgrades are expensive, and they will get blown out of the water until they are a high level.

Not only are barbs the cheapest, they are also the easiest to use and remain highly effective as you push higher in trophies. If you're wanting to have fun, then go ahead and upgrade willy-nilly. If you want to maximize your trophies, you have one goal: get your barbs to level 10+ ASAP and your bombers to level 2+. It feels sad saving up your elixir, using it to upgrade gold storages and your star lab, and keeping your lab idle with cheap upgrades available, but level 10+ barbs w/ one camp of bombers is basically a guaranteed 2 star against any sub 2200 trophy base. And as you keep upgrading them, they remain effective to the 3k+ trophy range.

How long should you stay at your current builder hall level? A rough guide is this: you should try to upgrade your defenses so they are two-three levels below your builder hall level. Basically, upgrade your defenses as long as they are dirt-cheap upgrades. Once they are at that point, upgrade your storages and then your builder hall. The new, cheap defenses at the next BH level will more than make up for your lower level defenses. 600k for an extra 7 dps and 75 hp on a cannon is NOT worth it when an extra level 1 cannon adds 62 dps and 500 hp.

In the main base, you get penalized for upgrading your Town Hall -- you see less lower level THs and you get a loot penalty if you attack them (-20% one level lower, -50% two levels lower). There is NO PENALTY in the BH base. Therefore, your goal is to get to BH7 as fast as possible.

You can upgrade your walls once, from level 1 to 2, because it's dirt cheap. Don't upgrade them again until you're at BH7. Walls are good, but the cost/goodness is very, very, very low.

New buildings are cheap. The moment you upgrade to a new BH level, build the new buildings that are available to you, upgrade your collectors, do any expensive new buildings available to you, then do the dirt cheap defense upgrades that you can.

In this guide we’ll explain you how to manage a Builder Base with level 4 Builder Hall: let’s explain the steps on how to get the best from BH4 and how to be able to optimize gold and pink elixir without buying gems and spend real money. These, in our opinion, are the best advices on how to get the most from BH4 (Builder Hall 4).

As soon as you upgrade your builder all you’ll unlock many buildings, troops and traps that were previously unavailable. At this step to know what to do and how to invest gold and pink elixir is very important. Let’s start by listing all the new features that are released and unlocked with the upgrade to Builder Hall level 4:

You may know that farm in this modality isn’t easy, we won’t linger on the question of gold and elixir as we have widely talked about it in the article on How to Farm in the Builder Base. This is why it is extremely important to rationalize and maximize the amount of resources we can unlock on a daily basis. It goes without saying that investing gold and elixir on buidings or upgrades that may turn out to a waste would cost a lot in terms of time and wins in Versus Battles. Here’s what to build or upgrade with prioritize.

We don’t recommend starting from this level with the priority of upgrading the Elixir Collector and Gold Mines, as the biggest contribution comes from the Versus Battles. You may reserve the upgrading of these buildings according to your preferences, given the low cost you can decide to increase them whenever you like. You may know that in Versus Battle the most important thing is the defense. That’s because it’s very important to invest gold in this order:

The elixir has a great potential in this game mode and will serve you mostly to strengthen and unlock the abilities of the new troops. Here is the order and what to do first with Elixir. We will give prioritiy to the army camp because it allows to use more troops in battle.

Gem Mine is currently avoidable, as it has a very high cost for reparation and generates just 2 gems a day. We will prioritize Star Laboratory Upgrades.

The offense is very important in this game mode, so you have to invest heavily on the upgrading of troops in the Star Laboratory and allow them to unlock at least Level 2 and therefore the special abilities; since air troops are underused because of the low percentage to score a star, here’s what you should upgrade first:
