A pregnancy in which the fertilised egg implants outside the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the main cavity of the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg attaches somewhere outside the uterus. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when an embryo implants somewhere other than the uterus, such as in one of the fallopian tubes. Ectopic pregnancy is a complication of pregnancy in which the embryo attaches outside the uterus. In an ectopic pregnancy, a fertilized egg has implanted outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tubes.
