As a makeup artist, I always tell beginners to invest in a good fluffy eyeshadow brush - it makes all the difference! For one-shadow looks:

  1. Prime your lids with concealer or eyeshadow primer so the color doesn't crease
  2. Pick a medium-toned shade - not too light, not too dark - champagnes, taupes, and soft browns are foolproof
  3. Apply in windshield wiper motions across your lid and slightly above the crease
  4. Blend, blend, blend until there are no harsh edges

Starting with one eyeshadow color is actually the perfect way to dip your toes into makeup! My go-to method is using my finger for the most intense color payoff. Just tap your finger into the shadow, then pat (don't rub!) the color onto your eyelid, working from your lash line up to the crease. The heat from your finger helps melt the powder slightly for a more seamless look. Finish by using whatever's left on your finger to sweep along your lower lash line. Easy peasy!
