For IRCTC e-ticket: Login to IRCTC, go to Booked History, select ticket, click 'Change Boarding Point', choose new station (must be on route), confirm. Before 24 hrs of departure. Link: https://contents.irctc.co.in/en/boardingPointChange.html

Full guide: For counter tickets, written request to station manager. Online easier. Ensure new station has stoppage. Recent update: Even closer to departure possible sometimes.

Detailed: Only for online bookings, new point after original, no fee. Steps:1. IRCTC account > My Transactions > Booked Ticket History.2. Select PNR.3. Change Boarding Station option.4. Pick from list.5. Submit.If Tatkal, possible too. My tip: Do early.
