How to get number plate for old bike?
You need your V5C log book. This proves the registration number. You also need to show your ID. Your driving licence or passport is good. Take these documents to a registered number plate supplier. Many garages can make them. A place like Halfords can do it too. They will check your papers and then make the new plate for you. It is quite a simple job, just make sure you have the right documents with you.
Once your registration is valid, visit an authorized number plate vendor approved by the government. They will require your RC book and ID proof to issue a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP).
To get a number plate for an old bike, first ensure the vehicle is registered with the RTO. If registration is expired, renew it by paying road tax and fitness fees at the RTO.
For very old bikes without proper registration documents, you may need to apply for re-registration. This involves police clearance, emission testing, and RTO inspection before a new plate can be issued.
I recently updated my old bike’s plate in Karnataka. The process took about a week, and the cost was around ₹400 for the HSRP, including embossing and fitting.
