How to give different page numbers in word?

Open your Word document → Go to Layout → Breaks → Next Page Section Break. This lets you divide the document into sections. Then, under Insert → Page Number → Format Page Numbers, choose where to start. That way you can have Roman numerals in the intro, Arabic numbers in the body, etc.

I did this in my thesis. You basically need section breaks. Insert → Header & Footer → unlink from previous → then set page numbers separately for each section. Works like magic!
