As someone who values privacy, here's how to hide your online status on WhatsApp: Go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen and Online. Select "Nobody" to hide both your last seen timestamp and online status. However, note that if you hide your online status, you won't be able to see others' online status either. This is a privacy trade-off. Also, people might still infer you're online if you're actively in a chat or if your profile picture updates. For complete privacy, you can also disable Read Receipts in the same menu, but this means you won't see blue ticks for messages you receive either.

Great news! WhatsApp finally introduced a feature to hide your 'Online' status, solving a major privacy concern for many users. You can now control who sees when you are active on the app. Here’s how to do it on both Android and iPhone: 1. Go to Settings: Open WhatsApp, tap the three-dot menu (Android) or the Settings gear (iPhone). 2. Navigate to Privacy: Select Account (if on older version) or directly tap Privacy. 3. Select Last Seen and Online: Tap on the Last seen & online option. 4. Configure Online Status: Under the section Who can see when I’m online, select: - Same as Last Seen: This will apply whatever rule you set for your Last Seen status (Nobody, My Contacts, etc.) to your Online status as well. To completely hide your Online status from everyone, you must set: - Who can see my last seen: Nobody - Who can see when I’m online: Same as Last Seen Important Note: If you hide your Last Seen and Online status, you also won't be able to see anyone else's Last Seen or Online status. It's a two-way privacy street!

Having tested various methods, here's the current situation: WhatsApp doesn't allow you to hide only your online status while keeping last seen visible. It's an all-or-nothing setting. The workaround I use is disabling both last seen and online status, then using WhatsApp Web strategically - people can't see when you're online there. Another trick is to put your phone in airplane mode before opening WhatsApp, read messages, then go offline before responding - this prevents the "online" indicator from showing. But honestly, the simplest approach is just to adjust your privacy settings and accept that complete invisibility isn't possible with WhatsApp's current features.

That new feature is a lifesaver for privacy! Just remember that hiding your "Online" status doesn't hide everything. What you CANNOT hide (officially): - Typing Indicator: If you are in a chat with someone and actively typing, they will still see the "typing..." indicator. - Read Receipts (Blue Ticks): These are a separate setting. If you have them enabled, they will still appear when you read a message, even if your online status is hidden. You have to turn off Read Receipts separately in the Privacy settings to hide those. If you want to be completely stealthy, turn off your Read Receipts as well. Otherwise, people can still deduce you're active if the blue ticks appear right after they send a message.

WhatsApp recently introduced a feature to hide your online status: 1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Last Seen & Online. 2. Under “Who Can See When I’m Online”, select Same as Last Seen or Nobody. This way, even when you’re online, others won’t see it.
