You have to change this in the BIOS. It's pretty easy. First, shut down your HP laptop completely.

Turn it on and right away start pressing the F10 key over and over. This should open the BIOS setup screen. Use the arrow keys to go to the 'System Configuration' tab. Look for an option called 'Action Keys Mode'. Change the setting from 'Enabled' to 'Disabled'. Then go to 'Exit' and choose 'Exit Saving Changes'.

After it restarts, your F1 to F12 keys will work as normal keys. Hope that helps
