How to remove quickbooks online account?
As a former bookkeeper, I'd advise a little caution before deleting. Is there a specific reason you're closing it? Sometimes people just want to stop the subscription, which you can do without deleting all the historical data. If you're sure, the key is to settle any outstanding subscriptions or invoices. Make sure your last month's payment has cleared your bank. If you have any payroll services active, that needs to be canceled separately FIRST, which can take up to 30 days. Deleting the account with active payroll will cause a major headache. Good luck!
Hey there! I went through this process last month and it's a bit of a pain, but totally doable. QuickBooks doesn't make it super obvious, so here's the step-by-step I followed. First, you absolutely MUST download all your reports and data—transaction history, chart of accounts, everything—because once the account is closed, it's gone for good. Then, you need to go to your account settings, look for "Delete Company," and follow the prompts. They'll try to get you to stay with offers, but just be persistent. A heads-up, you might need to call their support to finalize it. I found this official guide from Intuit super helpful: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/close-quickbooks-online-company-file/L7pdqVk6U_US_en_US
If you want to close or delete your QuickBooks Online account, you’ll need to log in from a web browser, not the mobile app. Once signed in, click the ⚙️ Gear icon > Account and Settings > Billing & Subscription. There you’ll find the option to cancel your subscription. After canceling, QuickBooks will keep your data for a year in case you want to re-activate, but after that, it’s gone permanently. Be sure to download or export your reports before you close it if you want a copy for your records.
Something to keep in mind: you can’t technically “delete” the account immediately, but you can cancel it and let the data expire. If you’re using QuickBooks for business, I’d strongly recommend downloading all invoices, tax records, and reports first. Here’s their official guide: QuickBooks Cancel Subscription. I canceled mine last year and it was pretty smooth, just make sure you’re the primary admin.
Ugh, dealing with this right now and it's frustrating. The link to delete your company isn't in a standard place. You have to click the gear icon for "Settings," then select "Account and Settings," go to the "Advanced" tab, and the "Delete Company" option is at the very bottom. They make you type "DELETE" in all caps to confirm. Just a warning, if you're the company admin, this deletes it for everyone else on the account too. Took me a solid hour to find the right menu!
