Safety First! Disconnect the battery and wait 10-15 minutes for the airbag system to discharge before you start! You don't want the airbag deploying in your face.

For a VZ Commodore, you'll need a Torx T30 screwdriver and a steering wheel puller.

  1. Disable Airbag: Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove Airbag: There are two holes on the backside of the steering wheel (at about 5 and 7 o'clock). Insert the T30 bit and undo the Torx bolts. The airbag module will then come free. Carefully disconnect the airbag electrical connectors (yellow ones).
  3. Remove Steering Wheel: The main nut is now exposed. Mark the steering shaft and wheel with a marker so you can align it during reinstallation. Remove the large nut. Use a steering wheel puller to gently pop the wheel off the splines. Don't hammer it!
