Search for transferable airline tickets with Alternative Airlines. We offer flights from over 600 airlines overall, with some airlines offering tickets that can be transferred via a name change.

Please note that not all tickets on our site are transferable. Read our page below to find out more.

Due to COVID-19, some airlines are waiving their change fees. You can find out whether the airline that you're flying on is waiving their change fee by clicking on the small 'flexible changes & cancellation' grey box when you select a flight at Alternative Airlines, as shown below.

This will give you more information on the airline's renewed COVID flight cancellation and changes policy.

If you've landed on this page, then you're probably looking to find out more about transferable flight tickets! A transferable airline ticket is a ticket that can be transferred from one person to another after a reservation has been made. Transferable flight tickets are only offered by a small selection of airlines (mainly low-cost carriers) and it'll often cost a fee to change the name on the ticket and transfer it to another person.

Transferable airline tickets are useful if you've purchased a flight and one of the members of your party can no longer travel. They allow you to give the ticket to another person so that they can travel on the flight instead. Name changes are subject to a small fee.

Please note that not all flights available at Alternative Airlines are transferable.

A non-transferable airline ticket is a flight ticket that cannot be transferred to another person. The majority of airline tickets are non-transferable, so, please keep that in mind when purchasing a flight. Non-transferable airline tickets are usually ineligible for transfer because the airline has a strict no-name change policy or the airline only allows name changes for spelling mistakes. Many long-haul airlines are non-transferable such as Southwest, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

Some airlines sell transferable airline tickets, but the majority don't. Most airlines that do sell transferable flights are low-cost airlines, but this doesn't mean that every ticket from a low-cost airline is transferable, as the majority are non-transferable.

Airlines that offer a full-service (e.g legacy and national carriers) will almost always never allow tickets to be transferred to another person, so avoid these airlines if you think you might need to change the passenger on your flight.

If you're looking to purchase a flight with Alternative Airlines and you're unsure whether the ticket you have selected is transferable, you can contact us and we'll let you know if your ticket can be transferred after the booking and how much it would cost.

If you've already purchased a transferable flight with Alternative Airlines and want to change the person travelling on the flight, contact us as soon as possible.

Tip: If your flight was particularly cheap, instead of transferring your flight to another person, it can be cheaper to buy an entirely new flight on the same or another airline. Use the search form at the top of the page to search for a flight on the same route and date that you originally purchased and compare the prices of booking an entirely new flight with what the airline is charging to transfer your existing flight to another person.

Below is an example of some airlines that sell transferable airline tickets and their transfer/name change policy. Please note that flight tickets can't be transferred if you've already checked in or you've already flown on one leg of the journey.

easyJet allows you to transfer the person on a flight reservation to another person by paying a name change fee. Fees are less expensive if you transfer the ticket at least 60 days before your flight. Past 60 days, the fee will be higher and — if you request to change too close to the flight — the airline has the right to refuse.

Ryanair allows you to transfer your flight to another person but it will cost a fee. Depending on your flight, it can sometimes be cheaper to buy an entirely new flight ticket. Name change fees start at £115 GBP per passenger and can be made up to two hours before the scheduled flight departure time. If you booked a flight with Ryanair, you'll have a 48-hour grace period where you'll be able to make minor changes to your name.

Vueling allows you to change the name and transfer your booking to another person for free if it's requested within 24 hours. After 24 hours, it'll cost €50 EUR per person/per way + the fare difference. Name changes can be made up to two hours before the scheduled flight departure time. Please bear in mind that name changes cannot be made if you've already taken one of the flights within the booking.

Changes and transfers within 24 hours of booking are free. After 24 hours, WestJet will allow you to transfer the person on your companion ticket but it will cost a fee. This can be done up until two hours before your flight is scheduled to depart.

Wizz Air allows you to transfer the passenger on a flight to another person up until three hours before the flight is scheduled to depart. This will cost a fee, starting at €45 EUR per person/per way.

Transavia allows flight tickets to be transferred to someone else for a fee. The fee is undisclosed and will differ depending on the circumstances. Names changes are allowed until 2 hours prior to the flight departure time.

Flybe allows passengers to change the name on their ticket and transfer the flight to someone else if they pay the name change fee. If passengers have purchased the Get More or All In fare, they'll be able to transfer their ticket within 24 hours for free. If they've purchased the basic Just Fly fare, they'll have to pay a fee to transfer the ticket, even if it's within 24 hours.

Yes, you can buy transferable airline tickets. However, most airlines do not offer transferable tickets and only sell non-transferable flights. The majority of transferable flight tickets are offered by low-cost airlines, such as the airlines that are listed above.

No, a non-transferable ticket cannot be transferred. However, many airlines will allow you to cancel your flight for free within 24 hours of booking. In this case, you can cancel your original booking and rebook for another person. Because the rebooking will have been made within 24 hours, the price of the flight is unlikely to change.

No, Southwest Airlines flights are non-transferable and cannot be transferred to another person under any condition. However, Southwest does offer flexible flights, which allow you to change the date of your flight. Additionally, Southwest allows you to cancel your flight entirely and receive a credit to use on another Southwest flight on the future.

American Airlines doesn't allow you to transfer your flight to another person, under any condition. You can make changes to the date of your flight but it will usually cost a fee.

Delta Air Lines tickets are non-transferable, meaning that they can't be given to another person, regardless of the reason. Tickets can be cancelled and returned for a full refund within 24 hours. Although Delta Air Lines doesn't allow people to give their airline tickets to someone else, Delta does let you change your flight to another date.

No, United Airlines tickets cannot be transferred to another person. United do have a 24-hour full-refund policy. So, if you need to change your flight within 24 hours, you can easily cancel it and rebook it.

Yes, although every airline's policy is different, it will almost always cost to transfer an airline ticket to another person. Sometimes, the cost of transferring a flight ticket to someone else can actually be more expensive than purchasing an entirely new ticket. So, it's worth looking into the price of a new flight and picking the cheaper option.

Some examples of airlines that offer transferable airline tickets include easyJet, Ryanair, WestJet and Vueling. As mentioned, airlines that offer transferable airline tickets are usually low-cost. However, this does not mean that ALL low-cost airlines offer transferable airline tickets. In fact, most don't. It's also important to note that each policy differs from airline to airline, so look into the individual policy before purchasing or contact us and we'll look into it for you.

Some airlines have strict name-change policies, that's it! Many airlines will not let you give your ticket to somebody else, even if you're willing to pay extra to change the name of the passenger within the booking. However, there are some low-cost airlines like easyJet and Ryanair that let you transfer your flight ticket to somebody else at a small cost.

If you don't know your Record Locator, you can find it in the confirmation email you received when you booked your trip.

American tickets have a 13-digit number that begins with '001'. Keep in mind there are separate ticket numbers for add-ons like seats, upgrades and bags.
