In India, I recently shifted from Zerodha to Groww. Groww actually has a simple import feature where they request shares directly from the old broker. But you still need to sign and courier the DIS slip. Charges vary, usually ₹25–₹50 per ISIN. Worth checking with your old broker.

You’ll need to do an off-market transfer through your broker. Steps usually are: 1. Open a Demat account with the new broker if you don’t already have one. 2. Fill out a DIS (Delivery Instruction Slip) with your old broker, mentioning the new Demat ID. 3. Submit it and wait 2–5 business days. Once processed, your shares will move to the new account. Make sure names and details on both Demat accounts match exactly—any mismatch will cause rejection.
