How to write name with initials in passport?

Passport authority doesn’t accept just initials as full name. You must expand your initials to full form. For example, if your name is "R. Kumar", you must write "Ramesh Kumar".

If you already have documents with initials (like PAN or Aadhaar), mention full form in passport application and submit affidavit linking both. That works fine.

I had similar issue. During passport application, I expanded my father’s initials into full name, otherwise the application was rejected. So better to expand everything.

In Indian passports, both given name and surname are required. So avoid only initials. If you want to include initials, write them as part of given name (e.g., "R K Sharma"). But surname cannot be left blank.
