Is it illegal to hire a private investigator?

99% of Hollywood plots would be nullified by gun control and the ban of PI's.In the US, PI's are just a major thing.Some countries have them, but most don't allow the PI to be more tolerant of a normal civilian.I don't see any issues with them if they perform legally and with morals.
