Greg was born in a small town in New Jersey. From kindergarten through eighth grade, his class had 12–13 students, which made it difficult for him to make new friends. He grew up unathletic with a self-described mushroom bowl haircut. He was a center for his fifth-grade school basketball team.[2]

In high school, his best friend went to another school, and his other friends were associated with other groups. He took a public speaking class to gain confidence and make new friends. He started his YouTube channel in the summer after ninth grade, dedicating his time to uploading videos instead of school and friends.

From April 19 2020 to November 24 2022, LostNUnbound did not upload any videos and disappeared from the internet. In his first video back, he explained that he was recovering from bipolar disorder and therefore felt uncomfortable filming videos during this unannounced hiatus.
