Is upgrad mba worth it?
It is a tricky one. I looked at this myself. The upGrad MBA can be good, but it depends on your goal. It is online, so you can keep your job. That is a big plus. It is also cheaper than a normal MBA from a big UK uni.
They partner with proper universities, like Liverpool Business School, so the degree is real. But, it is not the same as a full-time MBA from a top school. For getting a promotion in your job, it could be great. To change to a very new career, maybe less so. You must check which university is their partner.
UpGrad’s MBA programs are relatively new but gaining popularity. The value depends on your goals. If you want a flexible, online program while working full-time, then yes—it’s worth it. The content is solid, and the industry exposure is decent. But if you’re aiming for top-tier corporate placements, a traditional IIM or global MBA will carry more weight. So it’s "worth it" if you want affordability and flexibility, not if you’re chasing elite networking.
I enrolled in an UpGrad MBA myself. Honestly, the experience was mixed. The course content was good, the faculty was supportive, and I learned a lot about business strategy. But when it came to placements, it didn’t match the promises. Companies don’t treat it the same as an IIM degree. I’d say it’s worth it for knowledge, not for prestige.
A critical view: Online MBAs still carry stigma in India. HRs sometimes don’t give them the same weight. Unless the MBA is from a very reputed university (like ISB or global schools), the recognition can be limited. So don’t expect miracles. Treat it as skill-building, not as a golden ticket.
If you’re considering ROI, compare fees. An UpGrad MBA is usually cheaper than a traditional B-school program. You can continue working, which saves opportunity cost. Many professionals use it for career advancement in their current job rather than switching careers. If that’s your aim, it can be very valuable.
