The Canada Border Services Agency (ASFC) is a Canadian federal agency that provides border services. The agency was created in December of 2003

The CBSA has over a thousand service centers in Canada and 39 in other countries.

It employs more than 12,000 public servants and offers continuous and undisturbed service at 123 land border crossings and 13 international airports.

Since the September 11 attacks in the United States, Canadian border authorities have placed a new emphasis on national security. Canada and the United States have prioritized cooperation objectives related to border operations in the Smart Border Declaration.

Prior to 2004, border security in Canada was handled by three agencies.

On December 12, 2003 (the same day that Paul Martin became Prime Minister of Canada), the ASFC was created in an attempt to address certain issues that were under review by the Auditor General of Canada, including the inability to share information with a certain level of security and due to certain deficiencies in inter-institutional communication. The creation of the Agency was formalized with the Canadian Border Services Agency Act, whose actual signature was given on 3 November 2005.
