For smart administrators to troubleshoot, and then resolve, network failure issues quickly, they need to assess the stability of the network and find out where the disruption has occurred. And yet, an even a smarter administrator would conduct a network stability test before a failure to evaluate the connection strength and spot any errors or weak spots before they cause a crash.
Several steps need to be taken when testing a network’s stability. They include:
Network connectivity should never be lost; period. Apart from being up, it should also be fast and not prone to dropping packets. This can be done using three methods:
Only the right type of data should be transported on a network and not, for example, spam data from an attacker on the outside. In another scenario, servers shouldn’t be backed up during peak processing hours when they could hog the bandwidth.
Administrators should, therefore, keep track of what data packet is passing through their networks. They can use numerous deep packet inspection and network analysis tools found on the market which can be used to keep an eye on traffic and filter it as required.
There shouldn’t be any attrition or loss of data speeds. Packets shouldn’t be dropped because the network is too congested, an access point is not up or performing as well as it should be, or because the specific packets have been blocked by mistake.
Administrators should have a plan as to how much bandwidth is allocated to every aspect of your data transportation – give more to VoIP and less to email traffic, for example, so audio communication doesn’t lag.
Here too, administrators can take certain defensive steps and corrective measures to remedy this particular issue.
Network administrators also need to make sure there are no breaches or unauthorized usage of the network, connected devices, and the data on it.
The ideal toolset to use here would be Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS).
Finally, administrators know that their networks will only be stable as long as people who aren’t supposed to be on them are kept away. If outsiders keep meddling with data, configurations, and authorizations they will soon be able to hijack the network. They can then use it as a springboard for further attacks, hack the devices connected on it, or simply crash it.
Network security can be assured using tools like firewalls, anti-viruses, antimalware, and IDS/IPS tools.
Ok, now that that is clear let us get into the technical part of PING and TRACERT.

PING is a tool that sends packets to a target server and listens for a reply. A successful reply of all (100%) the packets delivered means the target is up and running and there are no connectivity issues. On the other hand, any dropped packets indicate that there is a network problem somewhere along the way, as is the case in the image below:
If the PING results in 100% loss, it could mean any (or all) of the connecting devices between the host machine and the target server are down.
TRACERT is a tool that sends packets to every single router that lies between the host machine and the target server.
In this case, though, the packets sent out will hop to every single router that is en-route to the target server and send a reply back to the host machine. Apart from confirming connectivity, each reply also includes the information of the next router in line so the subsequent packets have an address to target in the queue.
Based on this information, it becomes easy to see which routers are up, which one is taking too long to respond (it will be the one with the longest reply time), and which one is down (it will be the one that doesn’t send a reply back).
PING is a versatile tool that can be run from the command-line interfaces (CLI) of operating systems like Windows, Linux, and macOS.
The steps involved [in Windows OS] are:
Additional functionalities can be added to the command by adding arguments to the basic syntax such as by using:
For a full list of all the arguments that can be used, simply type PING /? at the prompt.
Error messages that show a reply from an unreachable device include Request Timed Out, Destination host unreachable, and Transmit failed (with an error code) – each of which tells a story about why there is an issue.
TRACERT is another command-line tool that helps with resolving network connectivity issues. As mentioned, and in comparison to PING, this tool doesn’t just test the connection speed between two points. It also checks all the routers that are found along the route as the packets that are sent hopping to and from each of them.
Any interruption in the connection becomes evident when the packet ceases to return with a reply from the device. This indicates that the silent device is the one to check out.
Once executed from the CLI, the command sends a UDP packet to all the routers that lie between the origin and target address and then waits for a reply – again, if there is one, that is.
The basic syntax of the TRACERT command looks like:
TRACERT XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX or TRACERT domain-name.com (the target IP address or domain name)
Additional functionalities can be added to the command by adding arguments to the basic syntax by using the likes of:
For a full list of all the arguments that can be used simply type TRACERT /? at the prompt.
Well, we have just seen all the tools you will need to conduct a network stability test. For those of us that don’t really want to be bothered with command-line interfaces, we have also seen there is a collection of tools you can use to achieve each objective of a network stability test.
Depending on your choice of tools and the frequency required, you can schedule or run them to see the status of your network’s stability at any given time.
Are there any tools you prefer to use or think would do the job better? Let us know in the comments section below.

Video marketing is no longer fun to have, it is a necessity. Videos can help you sell more products and services. According to a study conducted by the company last year, videos will have 80% of the internet's traffic by 2020.
The influence of videos on user purchases increases when the consumption of videos increases.
According to research conducted by QuestionPro.
Almost half of viewers mention that they have made a purchase after watching a video on a social network about a brand, and a third mention that they have considered making a purchase as a result of watching a video.
A majority of consumers mention that they interact with brands on social networks and watch brand videos.
The most popular response when respondents were asked their favorite content on social networks was "videos". 42% of those surveyed listed this option as first position.
According to market share, YouTube is the second most popular social platform, and this is because viewers can spend hours and hours on the platform, and they can't find anything on the other platforms.
A video search engine. It's no surprise that it uses a very sophisticated formula to display its content.
If you want to gain subscribers and have your videos appear on the first search pages, you need to consistently uploading content.
New content on the site as well as the latest user activity is something that YouTube takes into account when displaying its viewing options in search results.
The watch time is an important factor for the algorithm, since it wants to show in the first search results content that viewers consider pleasant and/or pleasant, so the high commitment and engagement of users towards a video is a great signal to the algorithm.
Let's go back a bit and find out what watch time is.
The formula is as follows: watch time is the average duration of the view.
The total number of minutes people have watched your videos is what the watch time is.
You can get your watch time by taking your views and dividing them by the average view duration. This makes the metric less valuable to content creators when viewed from a programming point of view, as it only means a direct result of two other metrics.
You cannot change or improve your watch time without affecting its components.
I think the metric is great, but it doesn't make sense when doing YouTube search, and one of the metrics that is multiplied to get it is average view duration.
The average view duration is significant. It's how long average people watch your videos. The most important metric of all is the average view duration, as it directly expresses what viewers want.
The ads and advertising dollars have to be present because of the competition between TV and the internet. In order to keep viewers watching longer, the suggestions and recommendations section of the website has been adjusted to make it easier to find videos that will keep viewers watching. The average view duration metric is important.
If we want to be successful on the platform, we need to keep watch time in mind.
When you are told to watch time, it's not necessarily referring to the minutes of viewing, even if the data that the analytics show you.
How often are your videos engaging viewers and how long are they watching them is what Youtube is really referring to.
You should take into account the 4 ghost metrics that I present to define that.
The biggest challenge is that there isn't a lot of public information about these phantom metrics since they are actually results of A/B tests and experiments that experts have been able to obtain. That is not to say that they are not real, but that they are not transparent with their algorithm.
User signals and the video owner's input description are used to feed the YouTube algorithm. That means that you have to tell what your video is about.
That's why you need to make sure that your video's success and ranking are maximized in the first 48 hours.
If you get it wrong, it could shoot to the top at the time of a search, and you'll sink.
The title, tags, and annotations are included in the video description.
Content creators should make an effort to maximize visibility of their video by using the correct Metadata.

There are some tips for creating effective Metadata that can help users find your video
The first piece of advice I'm going to give you is that you have to research what your competitors are doing before you create your own video, but it may sound a little strange.
The best time to improve your video is before you record it, because you will get more views.
2⃣ Once you have an idea of what your competitors are doing, the types of videos they are producing, how much they are engaging customers, how many views they are getting, what metadata they are using etc, it will be easier for you to create a video that stands out from your competition, in terms of having better content and being better optimized for the YouTube algorithm.
It will be time to re-optimize your video after you create it. Before uploading your video, make sure you have the proper title, description, tags, and tab ready.
When you are researching on the internet, you should look for the words that will drive the most traffic to your video. The best place to do this research is on the same platform, however I recommend that you use other traditional tools to find the right words.
The number of tags you can include on your video is limited by the number you can include on the site. I recommend you use tags that contain multiple words, such as: "online-survey."
The subject of your video is what these tags are about.
Unless you have permission from the owner, do not use trademarks or non-original material in your speach.
Your tags are understood by YouTube. These are some examples of tags that you can use, in this case we will use as a theme, "how to create an online survey."
tags are multi-word.
One word tags.
There are some tags related to the topic
If you want to get tag ideas, you need to look at first page search results that compete with your video. It won't be as easy to find out what your competitors' secret recipe is if you don't know the tags on the videos.
Luckily, there are tools that can help you find out more about what your competitors are doing, including the tags they use to rank their videos.
vidIQ and TubeBuddy are some of the tools that are used. You can choose between a free and paid version of the program, it depends on the needs of your company.
I recommend using both versions if you can afford it.
The tools give you information about your competitors' videos. The tags of your videos are one of the best features.
