So, almost 20 years later I've returned to a game I adore but never completed.
I know questions about O'aka are literally everywhere on the internet, but I have a couple of questions I can't find the answer to and I hoped that, if anyone reads this, someone here might be able to help.
I understand how O'aka's lending works in that the more you lend the larger the discount you get later in the game:
0 - 100 gil -> all items/weapons will get 100% increase in prices.
101 - 1000 gil -> all items/weapons will get 50% increase in prices.
1001 - 10000 -> all items/weapons will get 20% increase in prices.
10001+ -> items/weapons will get 30% discount on all prices.
Some dude called GangstaL at GameFAQ's gives some good examples:
"Say you're planning to buy Avenger, White Armlet and Red Ring. The total price you'd be paying for this equipment in a regular shop (hence Regular price) is 11,750 gil.
Donating 0 gil: the total cost is 0 + 11,750*2 (donation + Regular price*penalty) = 23,500 gil.
Donating 101 gil: 101 + 11,750*(3/2) = 17,726 gil.
Donating 1,001 gil: 1,001 + 11,750*(6/5) = 15,101 gil.
Donating 10,001 gil: 10,001 + 11,750*(7/10) = 18,226 gil
... [here] the cheapest option is to donate 1,001 gil. The important concept here is that you need to find a balance between price reduction and gil spent on donating. Obviously, when buying little equipment you want to donate less than when buying much equipment.
So with the above in mind, I've got the following questions...
I probably won't be doing that, so are there items that I should definitely purchase (i.e. they are great quality and you can only get them from O'aka) that would make lending money worthwhile? If so, should I donate a smaller amount to ensure I'm not at a loss (like in the example above)? E.g. donate 1,001 rather than 10,001?
As I don't know what I'm going to buy, I don't know how much to donate.
2) I've heard you can only lend O'aka money four times, so how much should you lend on each occasion?
I know some people say lend 2,500 per time, but that is a lot of Gil early game. Is something like 1k, 1k, 4k then 4,001 more feasible?
I just wondered how other people tend to do it...
