Answer

It is made up of six parts. There are three layers of papyrus. The lengths have been joined with great care and the repairs and additions of new pieces have been done well. The Hunefer Papyrus was light in color, but it darkened upon unrolling, and some sections have shrunk.

Egyptologists agree that it was written by three sholders, since it has different spellings and some of them are copies of each other.

The person who bought it may have seen the name in a different script and blank spaces.

Theban version of the book has chapters in no fixed order, and it is part of it. The "saite version" was used with a fixed order from the XXVI dynasty to the Ptolemaic period.

It is made up of three sheets of paper, each with a different length.

The text is 23.6 m in length. It was fastened with a broad band.

In the text it appears who Ani is: "True royal scribe, scribe and administrator of the divine offerings of all the gods", "Governor of the granary of the lords of Abydos and scribe of the divine offerings of the lords of Thebes" and "Beloved of the lord of the North and of the South”. He was a high position, but he was also an administrator.

His wife, Tutu, was the Mistress of the "House of the Adorers of Amun" and is represented with the instruments of her trade.

Although he may have taken advantage of an earlier papyrus, the drawings were still about him and his wife. He probably chose the artists he collaborated with in his execution, as this confirms his knowledge of the trade. Being married to a priestess of Amun makes his high positions credible.

The large and highly decorated papyrus gives us an idea of the position that Ani is in, considering that most people could only bury a few chapters of the Book of the Dead.

It seems that the text has been adapted to the images. This is the only way to explain the differences between the different versions, as well as the changes in the signs, which seem to respond to symbolic needs.

The explanations of the illustrations are more complex than the text.

The ka of the dead must follow the steps in the book to overcome the dangers of the path until they reach the Judgement of Osiris and live eternally in the Hereafter.

The Book of the Dead is actually called Libro para salir al da, but the title could be translated as The Book of Eternal Awakening.

It is one of the most influential books in history and the religious reference of the Egyptians for more than three thousand years.

The most authoritative version of the Theban version of the Papyrus of Ani is the best source for the study of the Book of the Dead because of its good preservation.

A translation and transliteration of the hieroglyphs was published in 1895.

There are several chapters from the Book of the Dead, almost all of which are accompanied by a couple of vignettes, and at the top and bottom there is a border of two colors.

The spaces of six and eleven inches are blank at the beginning and end. The text is unaffected by the loss of the few characters that were damaged by unrolling. It was written by three or more people, but the execution of the vignettes was the same as the illustrations. Chapter titles, rubrics, etc., are red.

Sometimes the draftsman took up so much space that he had to put the text in the margin or pile it up. The bullets were drawn before the text was written.

Some sections of the papyrus were written for another person, such as Ani, and her name has been added in several places. The first section, which is 16 feet 4 inches long, was written specifically for him and the others were generic copies with spaces to fill in the names.

The scribe who filled in Ani's name in these spaces wrote hastily, since in Chapter XXXB, line 2 (plate 15), he left no space to write the word "Osiris" in the phrase "Ani victorious over Osiris" (see plate 1, line 5); in Chapter XLIII, lines 1 and 2 (plate 17), he wrote it twice; in chapter IX, l. 1 (plate 18), he has omitted the determinative in chapter XV, line 2 (plate 20) which was to write "Ani, victorious in peace" (plate 19), he wrote "Ani in triumph"; in chapter CXXV, line 18 (plate 30), the word ### is written twice, probably, however, for the purpose of line padding, in Chapter CLI (plate 34) the name is spelled sloppily, and the determinative is omitted, and in Chapters XVIII (Introduction, plate 12) and CXXXIV (plate 22) the scribe omitted to write the name in two spaces. It is probable that all the sections of the papyrus were written at the same time, and that they are the work of scribes of the same school; the variations in the depth of the space occupied by the text and the difference in the border colors show that even the best scribes did not unite in a unified method of preparing a copy of the Book of the Dead. The text contains two copies of the same book. A large section of the XVII Chapter, one of the most important in the work, has been completely omitted.

Such errors and omissions, however, occur in papyri older than that of Ani, for in the Nebseni papyri, which was written in Memphis at the beginning of the Eighteenth Dynasty, Chapters L, LVI, LXIV, CLXXX, are found two copies of each, of Chapters C and CVI, three copies, and of Chapter XVII, two extracts are given in different parts of the papyrus.
