Investing in an EPF or popularly known as Provident Fund (PF) can fetch a number of benefits.

PF INTEREST RATE

An interest rate of 8.50 per cent is paid on EPF investments.

There is another benefit that EPF offers is interest compounding.

To simplify this, as the investment grows and gets bigger, there will be higher interest rates.

Any investment up to Rs 1.5 lakh in EPF is tax deductible under section 80C of the Income Tax.

INCOME TAX FREE

If an employee never withdraws the PF amount during his/her working tenure, that individual stands to gain a lot of advantages during the time of retirement.

If an employee does not withdraw money throughout his working tenure, there will be a continuous compounding interest rate and the money will be tax-free.

PENSION BENEFIT

If no withdrawal is made prior to retirement, one will be able to avail the benefits of EPS-Pension.

Post-retirement, one will get a monthly pension under the EPFO's Employee Pension Scheme.

If one does not make any withdrawal from EPF for ten years, the benefits of a member's pension commence. After 58 years, one can avail pension benefits from the pension fund.
