Evansville police arrested 37-year-old Jennifer Tritto of Edison, New Jersey on Friday.

Police say Tritto was attempting to cash a stolen check with a stolen ID in the drive-thru of a credit union in Downtown Evansville.

They say Tritto is likely a part of a much larger scheme.

The Felony Lane Gang is a traveling group of criminals made up of several men and women, who go from town to town stealing IDs and checkbooks from unattended vehicles.

Police say this is the 4th case in the last 4-5 months in Evansville. Each time, they say, the banks have seen $10-20,000 nearly get stolen.

The thieves try to cash their fraudulent checks in the lane furthest from the bank windows so it’s harder for the teller’s to identify them. This is called the felony lane.

“We received intel that they were here this past week and so we put the banks on high alert and had great cooperation from the tellers and were able to catch them in the act,” says an Evansville Detective on the case.

These thieves break into cars in areas where people are most likely to leave their valuables in their vehicles. Past incidents in Evansville have seen car burglaries in ballparks and gym parking lots.

Police say the gang often targets the cars of women, especially mothers.

Female members of the gang will disguise themselves to look as much like the woman on the stolen ID as possible. When Tritto was arrested, police say she had 22 wigs stuffed into a backpack and a few different pairs of glasses.

Tritto is facing felony charges including forgery, identity deception, and theft.

Police say there were at least two others working with Tritto. They were sitting in a vehicle nearby when Tritto was attempting to cash the fraudulent check. Police say they identified the vehicle and pursued it until it began to drive dangerously. The pursuit was called off, by the suspects were identified and are being investigated.
