PDX is probably one of the most popular online and in print nicknames for Portland Oregon. It refers to the International Air Transit Association airport code for the Portland International Airport in the city limits. Many Portland businesses include PDX in their domain names to refer to Portland in the Portland area.
But this is not the only nickname for Portland even though it is probably the most common and the most well-known to locals and natives of the area.
Bridgetown or Bridge City is also a popular nickname for Portland due to its numerous bridges crossing are two main rivers, the Columbia and the Willamette. All of these bridges spanned shoreline roads, paths or other shores and in total there are 11 bridges over the Willamette River and three over the Columbia, which separates Washington state from Oregon.
Other nicknames that are not quite as well known are P-Town, Little Beirut, do two processors that George H. W. Bush encountered during many of his visits, Beervana because Portland has more brewpubs per capita than any other city in the US and Rip City. This nickname is usually used in contacts of the city's National Basketball Association and the Portland Trail Blazers.
A local favorite was coined during a time of phenomenal growth in Portland in the mid-1840s. "Stumptown" refers to the sums of trees that were cut down to make way for roads and tell enough people could remove them. In some areas, the stumps remain for so long that locals whitewash them to make them more visible so they would be removed. Several locals use them to cross the street without sinking into the mud and during the 1850s, people stated that there were more stumps than trees in Portland.
However, PDX is probably one of the most common and is still used today for many businesses, references to the Portland area, and of course the airport.
These are things you should know you're planning on moving here or just want to sit in a little bit more like the locals. Ready to get started looking for homes in Portland? Give me a call today.

They have their own successful individual projects. Tamera's talk show "The Real" was just picked up by FOX for two years, while Nick at Nite's brand new show "Instant Mom" is starring and produced by the same person. The docu-series "Tia & Tamera" was recently re-runs on E!
They talk about how they came together to pursue a career in acting, why they started their company, their individual projects, how they've used their fame in support of their company, and their best pieces of career advice for you.
How did you get started in acting and land Sister Sister?
We traveled from Texas to LA with my mother to see if the business was really for us. We could stay if we booked a job in that period. We met a talent scout who saw potential in us and arranged for us to meet the people who would eventually create Sister Sister for us.
Tamera and her sister used to watch Star Search religiously, and wanted to be on it one day. That sparked the idea of being on television.
We wanted to take our talents to the next level and we already loved singing and dancing. Our mom got us an agent in Dallas, but she realized we needed one in California. When we got one, we set our goals of heading out to California to find a job in a month. Our mother promised us that we would move to California to pursue our dreams if we did so.
We did that. We booked a Chrysler commercial for 11 years old. It all happened so fast.
Our brother, who was 3 years old at the time, booked tons of commercials and TV shows. At 14 years old, we met the producer of one of my brother's television shows. Sister, Sister was created by the sis and I with the help of Dreyer. ABC bought our idea after we pitched it.
How would you compare Need Brands to Jessica Alba's Honest Company?
We always wanted to have our own company together. It was a dream of ours since high school, but we didn't know what company we'd be in until we had babies.
We became aware of products that were not available to the public while we were pregnant and after we had a baby. Our company's mission has become to help moms out there who are in need.
A lot of Jessica Alba's products are geared towards baby. The majority of our products are geared towards mothers first, which is the main difference.
In the future, we will expand our line to meet the needs of babies and children as well as their mothers.
Tamera and I have been trying to get a product line off the ground since "Sister Sister" but we always heard "no no no." When we became pregnant and started having babies, we knew we were a good fit for a product line for moms and babies, because we were such a natural fit.
I don't want to compare NEED to The Honest Company. I use The Honest Company's products daily, and I admire Jessica Alba for what she has done. I think the only way we are alike is that we are all trying to create products that will help other mothers.
Tell me about your individual projects that you are doing at work. How do you manage your time and give your company the attention it deserves?
I'm currently working on a sitcom for Nick at Nite called "Instant Mom," and I've sold another show to Nick based on my childhood being raised with a drill sergeant as a mom. How do I manage my time to give my company the attention they need? I am a beast when it comes to multitasking, which is an important quality when juggling all of my projects at the same time. I have a passion for what I do, which keeps me going and things in line.
Tamera will host a talk show. The fox. "The Real" will debut in September, 2014). It is a younger, more ethnic version of the view. I plan on starring in and producing a TV movie based on my original idea, as well as producing a TV movie of my own.
I am always auditioning and searching for top-notch acting jobs on A-list projects in order to solidify myself as an actress and to keep my acting skills sharp and ready! My favorite shows are shows like "True Blood" on HBO, and I aspire to be on those "fancy" shows that are respected by people in the entertainment industry as well as my fans.
Managing time is difficult because I am a mom and a career woman. I have a great team that I can depend on to guide me.
I have a master calendar that includes all my career and family duties that I cannot live without.
Do you think that you have enough of an edge to make Need Brands successful? How are you reaching your audience of moms?
Being a celebrity gives me an edge when it comes to making my brand successful. The quality of the product is what matters to me the most.
I want to make sure that what we are putting out there is beneficial to women and children and satisfying to the public.
Tamera thinks that our celebrity helped us to launch. Being true to ourselves and being active on social media helped us. Our company is called NEED because we believe that our products are actually products that moms and babies need. My sister had trouble breast-feeding, and I was pregnant, so I was worried that I would have the same issue, so we started with our first product, Milky.
The first product was born after we found out about the herb that helped women. The NEED brand will continue to be a success if they continue to supply the marketplace with products that are useful and innovative.
The hard work was about to begin. In order to market our products and build, we reach out to moms through social media, press, mommy expos, in-store appearances, etc. I am lucky because I will be on a talk show this fall where I can talk about my product when the time is right and hit millions of people that way.

If you're new to the game, there are a lot of things you need to keep in mind. Let's see how we can help you get the most out of Call of Duty: Mobile.
You'll need around 1.6 gigabytes of storage to install CoD: Mobile and game data, so you may need to clean up. This is a demanding game and if you're on the edge, your phone won't perform as well. You only have to download the full game if you need it because COD:M breaks down the files.
If you have a gaming mode on your device, now is the time to use it to reduce notifications you don't want and to kill other processes that may be slowing down your phone's performance. To get the best out of CoD:M you need your phone to work.
If you want to play as a guest, you have to use Facebook or Call of Duty account. If you get a new phone or want to play a game on a tablet, you can change your profile to a different device if you use Facebook login.
You may be able to get a different character for connecting to your Call of Duty account if you use a different login type.
Call of Duty: Mobile's soundtrack is excellent, and it also helps you be more aware of what's going on around you. If you can hear them clearly, you'll be able to locate footsteps, hear the cough of a silenced rifle, and much more.
If you have a stereo speaker, turn it up if you are playing with headphones.
You will need an internet connection to play, there is no offline mode, as this is live. The game does not consume much data, so keep an eye on your data allowance or use the wi-fi connection.
My game is laggy, it's probably because my connection is dropping. Try turning on or off your internet service to fix the problem.
Sometimes we use mobile data when the internet is not working.
What you see is what you film. The brighter it is, the better, so turn off auto brightness, turn up the levels, and make sure "night mode" or "blue light filter" isn't turned on, as it will distort images.
If you have a game mode on your phone, turn it off.
You can connect a console controller to a mobile device. You won't have an unfair advantage when you play because you'll be with other controller users. You can see when the controller is connected and configured by going into settings > controller.
The settings and options for Call of Duty: Mobile can be found on a variety of devices, but what's best depends on how you like to play and what device you're using. It's worth taking the time to try all the options.
You can choose advanced mode, which has two control methods, simple or advanced.
The simple one is to fire when you aim at someone, but the advanced one gives you full control and it is the latter that you should choose, even if you have a little more practice. Simple controls will never get you anywhere.
In the lobby, tap the settings button and you'll be able to modify your controls.
You can choose between Simple and Advanced in Controls, but you have to use the customization button to drag the control elements to new locations. You should keep in mind that both battle Royale and Multiplayer have slightly different docks.
The option to go directly to prone instead of long pressing the crouch button has been added recently. The prone button is disabled by default, but you can still use dropshotting, a move that allows you to drop to the ground.
Since the new control option was added, it's become very common in COD:M. There are options in settings.
You can change the firing mode of different types of weapons in the same area. You can fire from the hip or the custom. This will allow you to change the behavior of weapon groups so you can fire from the hip.
If you want to change the graphics quality on your phone, you have to tap Audio & Graphics. The quality and frame rate are available here.
If you set the game too high, you'll have trouble if it gets rough. You can lower the graphics quality to play at the faster frame rate if you choose to do so.
You can change the settings for how you move, as well as the sensitivity of the headsets that use the phone's gyro, in Sensitivity, which can be found in the settings menu. This can be changed for battle Royale and other games as well as individual scope magnifications, as you may want more sensitivity at a lower zoom and less sensitivity at a higher zoom to keep it stable.
Practice against the AI will show you the setup you can use in the game. Here you will see how to practice and practice against the artificial intelligence. This is a good way to see how weapons, settings, and controls work for you. This is the place to change settings on the fly.
You can see what your friends are doing by entering your friends list and touching the eye button.
There are two large sections in Call of Duty: Mobile. They are both battle Royale and multi-player. The controls and visuals are the same, but the game modes are fundamentally different. The zombie mode is back for a limited time.
There are a number of different modes to play. The main modes are Frontline, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search and Destroy, Gunfight, Confirmed Kill, and Hardpoint.
There are special feature modes such as Standoff - Halloween, Sniper Only, Gun Game and Prop Hunt. The Battle Pass has incentives for playing all modes, so keep an eye on it.
Sometimes a new map is introduced to play. 10v10 is our favorite, as it's non-stop carnage.
The maps vary depending on the type of game, changing to suit the type of game you are going to make: Killhouse, Nuketown (Russia and Temple), Hijacked, Cage, Rust, Gulag, Shipment 1944, Reclaim, Dome, Scrapyard, Oasis, Highrise , Crash, Summit, Crossfire, Standoff, Terminal, Firing Range, Hackney Yard, Takeoff, Raid, Meltdown, Icebreaker, Slums, Suldal Harbor, Shoot House, Miami Strike, Icebreaker, Hardhat, Hacienda, Hovec Sawmill, Vacant, Monastery. The first 10 are small and the second 10 are larger.
You won't always have access to all the maps because some are assigned to specific game modes.
There are ranked matches that will cycle between maps and game modes.
You can play in first or third person perspective, you can play solo, or you can play in a team. There is a smaller map in the game that comes and goes. There are many locations on the map.
In battle Royale, you parachute with nothing, pick up weapons and try to be the last player or team to survive. The playing area gradually decreases, pushing the surviving players into a tighter area
It's the battle Royale.
There are additional modes in the game, such as War, in which there are teams of 20 on opposing sides for a variation on BR, but they disappear.
There's a great reward system in Call of Duty: Mobile, but it's okay to play and have fun.
Events and the Battle Pass are what this is. There is a paid and free path.
Those who pay get access to more characters, skins, and in-game currency, but those on the free track still get a lot of things.
You progress through the Battle Pass by playing the game and earning Battle Pass experience. You can get to the higher levels faster by participating in the events, as you will get more and better rewards as you get there.
The event system adds a lot to the game. If you want to play the game all the time, there are events that add variety and increase your rewards.
This will include weapons, characters, skins, and sometimes new weapons. You can find things like "Kill 30 enemies with the AGR 556 equipped with any 5 attachments" in Seasonal or featured events. This adds the ability to play all the new features in the game, and takes you through the process.
Gunsmith allows you to modify your weapons with accessories and skins. You have to play with those weapons and level them up by using Weapon XP cards, but you can also do that by using a card.
The Gunsmith is located in the Equipment section and is where you will need to use it to make sure you have the correct number of weapons to progress. You can enter the zone if you touch the Gunsmith button.
If you want more information, we have a full guide on the gunsmith.
Friends have several uses in COD:M and one of them is to get more weapon XP cards.
You can send Weapon XP to your friends in the game, and they will get it back. It's a simple daily task that will give you more cards to do in Gunsmith.
You should keep an eye on the weapon's statistics, they change over time.
It can be anything from accuracy to damage. The values will go up or down to show the changes you will make to that weapon. This allows you to change weapons to suit your playstyle, for example increasing mobility if you like to play fast and close, or increasing damage and range if you're a long-range fighter.
It's easy to ignore perks because they don't have an immediate impact on a weapon's stats, but they can do things like speed up changing your magazine or increase a weapon's damage. Akimbo is a powerful perk that allows you to carry two Fennec SMGs, but only if you earn and unlocked it.
There are a lot of weapons in Call of Duty: Mobile and you can upgrade them, apply skins to them, and choose your loadout for the game.
You can earn more XP by playing and by gaining rank and gaining loadout slots.
You can have 10 different loadouts with different weapons, perks, and skills, and you can choose which one you want.
The type of game you are playing will affect the equipment you carry, and this will change depending on the map. The maps Killhouse, Hijacked, and Nuketown are ideal for SMGs because they involve melee combat. You can change during a match with 10 loadouts.
Weapon cards can be used to upgrade your weapons, and this can be anything from adding a scope to lengthening the barrel. The impact of the changes you make can be seen in the weapon's stats table. This is what the Gunsmith is about.
You can't actually hide in the game because enemies wearing red flash on their uniforms separate you from the other side. You can see the red markings even when hiding, as Camouflage doesn't really matter. Remember that you are not invisible, and that you can be detected by a UAV and placed on the map.
Don't wear red because it can confuse your team. It's easy for someone to think they're an enemy when they see a flash of red.
In Hardcore mode, avoiding red colors can help your team focus on who's fighting.
Staying still is your enemy since you cannot hide. The enemy can't target you if you keep moving. To strafing to the sides without losing sight of the enemy is a skill that must be mastered.
When you run out of bullets, take cover and come back to attack. It's a simple use of coverage.
You can use the slide if you touch the button. This gives you a better chance of being shot at and getting into a cover.
It is useful to know how to crouch, as it decreases your visible area while still allowing you to move.
The quality to this, Skulker, makes you faster when crouching.
You can move faster with sprint. You can either slide up the jog stick or use the sprint button. There's also a menu option to "always sprint" but use it with caution as sometimes it means you can't stop with the precision you want and you may end up colliding with your enemy by mistake, but it's a great option when using a shotgun , since you can sprint and spray. There is a perk that makes you go faster.
Use it
The Renetti is a great secondary weapon that takes people down just as easily as a rifle.
It is quicker to switch to the pistol than it is to reload. It's great for maps when things get crazy. You can increase the ability to make it more effective through the gunsmith, but avoid the silencer.
Throwing a grenade back and forth is a great opening move on maps like Killhouse and Nuketown, it's easy to wake up your enemy quickly. You just have to make sure you don't collide with your own grenade, because the opening immunity has expired.
If you're too close to the player you just killed, their grenade could finish you off, so watch out for Martyrdom.
