I have flown with American Airlines for over 30 years to many domestic and international destinations and would like to share my experience with you in this article. Additionally, I reviewed the official rankings and ratings of hundreds of other customers.
American Airlines is a good airline because it has a perfect safety rating and a fantastic loyalty rewards program. It ranks as the largest airline in the world and flies to more than 350 destinations worldwide. They serve more destinations nonstop than any other US-based carrier.
They are also part of the Oneworld Alliance Program, allowing even more flight opportunities on partnering airlines.
On the other hand, American Airlines sometimes receives bad reviews due to poor reliability, and they may not have the best reputation when it comes to customer service. High cancellation fees and small legroom are the other downsides.
đĄ However, numerous customers always report friendly flight crews, no baggage issues, and safe travels. Overall, American Airlines is still a good flight carrier. If you know what to expect based on your ticket type, you are more likely to have a positive travel experience, despite the downsides.
Depending on the purpose of your trip and your personal needs and preferences, American Airlines may or may not be right for you. Besides flying, the airline offers various perks and solutions to travelers, including lounge access and help to those with limited funds.
While it does have some room for improvement, remember that no airline is perfect. Be sure to do your own research when choosing the right airline carrier, and note that a couple of bad review does not dictate the service of the entire airline.
We love all three books. Check them out to save hundreds of dollars the next time you book a flight!
đĄ Additionally, we recommend using the Expedia flight search: Find the right flight for your trip on Expedia (save the link!)
Now, I am discussing the good and the bad aspects of American Airlines Airlines.
While American Airlines may not have the best reputation of being the #1 airline in the world, there are plenty of positive aspects that come along with flying with American Airlines.
From safety, perks, and entertainment, American Airlines comes with high-quality services. Here are some of the pros of flying with American Airlines.
An advantage is the American Airlines Loyalty Program, where flyers can earn points and miles in exchange for free flights and rewards. Members can earn points through flying, shopping, dining, or charging on specific credit cards.
Elite members have even more benefits, such as extra baggage, priority boarding, or free changes and cancelations. Additionally, American Airlines is a member of Oneworld Alliance, meaning you can use and earn AAdvantage miles by flying with other members of Oneworld Alliance.
When flying with American Airlines, passengers will be thankful to know that they take their corporate responsibility seriously, and do their best to give back to others. The airline has donated over 155,000 volunteer hours, 20 million miles, and other community initiatives with their partners such as the American Red Cross, Make a Wish Foundation, and Unicef.
I love knowing that part of my ticket fares are being given to a good cause, and are able to help those less fortunate than myself.
American Airlines has an excellent safety rating of 7/7. When flying with American Airlines, passengers will feel safe and secure while traveling. There are very rarely complaints or concerns when it comes to passenger or aircraft safety, and there have been very few incident reports filed with the company.
đĄ I have taken dozens of flights with American Airlines worldwide, and have never felt unsafe or in danger due to the airline.
Many airlines flying mainly domestically, donât have special seating classes, such as business class and first class. Luckily, American Airlines offer both classes for flyers looking to travel more comfortably and in style on domestic and international flights.
There is a wide range of fare options that offer flexibility, including extra baggage, meals, or complimentary beverages when flying on business or first class with American Airlines.
When flying from Los Angeles to New York a few years ago on a business trip, I was able to fly in comfort and be well-rested for my early meeting on arrival to the city.
Being the largest airline in the world, American Airlines flights to hundreds of destinations, with over 6,000 flights per day to more than 350 cities. While the airlineâs home hub is in Dallas, Texas, they operate flights all over the world.
No matter where in the world you are trying to go, there is undoubtedly an American Airlines flight that will get you there, or at least get you started.
Once, I had a last-minute emergency while overseas in Malaysia and had to fly home early on short notice a few years ago. Thankfully, I had plenty of flight options with American Airlines and partnering airlines that was able to get me home as quickly as possible.
The American Airlines Moblie App allows passengers to access all their flight information straight from their phones. Flyers can check in early, download boarding passes, change and cancel flights, and stay up to date on announcements of changes that may occur before their flight.
I like their app, because it is a perfect solution to stay up to date while on the road and be informed quickly and conveniently about anything regarding their flight.
American Airlines offers in-flight entertainment on backseat screens or through your personal devices using the American Airlines App. While flying, passengers can select from a wide range of movies, tv shows, music, games, and interactive maps to stay entertained while up in the sky.
Wifi is available for an extra charge, which is specifically helpful to those like me who typically spend a lot of time working during long-haul flights. In-flight wifi allows me to stay organized and get more work done in transit, allowing me more free time in my new adventurous destination.
There are a lot of perks and high-quality factors that come with flying with American Airlines. But where there is a positive, there is always a negative.
Here are some of the low-quality cons that come with flying with American Airlines.
If you are someone who is tall or needs a lot of extra space, American Airlines might not be the best option. Unless you are flying in high-class cabins such as business or first class, legroom on American Airlines flights is small and scarce.
While this may not be too much of an issue flying domestically, flying internationally can be tough. When I fly with American Airlines on a flight for more than 4 hours, I opt to pay an extra fee to reserve a set in an emergency exit row, guaranteed to have more legroom.
American Airlines is not praised for having satisfactory customer service. In 2018, there were over 2,000 complaints due to poor customer service with their passengers. It looks as if their goal is to get passengers from point A to B as easily and beneficial to the company, not the passenger.
While the company does have a high number of loyal flyers, keep in mind when flying with American Airlines, if there is an issue with your ticket, chances are you wonât receive much assistance from the airline, and it will likely be on you to fix the issue.
American Airlines have very high fees when it comes to almost every aspect of tickets. Be prepared to pay a hefty charge when canceling or changing flights, as well as adding extra luggage or seat selection on board.
While many other airlines also require extra fees, American Airlinesâ prices are well higher than most others.
One of the biggest complaints every year by American Airline passengers is the companyâs reliability. While there are typically loads of flights to choose from, there is a high percentage of cancellations and delays with various tickets (Source: CNET â Worst US Airlines for Delays and Cancellations)
I typically avoid flying with American Airlines during the winter season and when I am on a strict time schedule, due to many cancellations and delays in the past that caused a damper on previous trips.

And thereâs no better place to do that than Disneyâs Hollywood Studios. Sure, Disney Parks like Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom also offer plenty of opportunities to meet Mickey and the gang. However, if itâs Darth Vader and Kylo Ren, Woody and Jessie, or Fancy Nancy and Doc McStuffins youâre after, then you wonât want to miss the character-palooza that is Disneyâs Hollywood Studios.
So, exactly which Hollywood Studios characters can you see and where? What are the best ways to meet them? (Traditional character meet-and-greets, more informal sightings and character meals are at the top of our list.) Or, what if youâre short on time but are still looking for a little character magic? (Thatâs where Hollywood Studiosâ many character-themed attractions come in.) Grab your autograph book and read on for our complete guide to seeing characters at Hollywood Studios.
Due to the pandemic, some Hollywood Studios character experiences may be temporarily unavailable. Refer to the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date information.
When it comes to celebrity sightings, thereâs no better place than Tinseltown. So, itâs only natural that Disneyâs Hollywood Studios is also home to a star-studded cast of characters, from classic Disney pals and Star Wars characters to new favorites from Pixar and Disney Junior.
Of course, all that star power can be a little daunting. Donât worry, weâre here to help. Here are some things to consider when tracking down characters at Hollywood Studios.
The âbestâ way to see characters at Hollywood Studios is the one that fits your schedule, the characters you want to see, the kind of encounter youâre looking for and, potentially, your budget. In general, for an up-close interaction that wonât cost you anything extra (except for the time you spend in line), you canât beat a traditional character meet-and-greet.
Not only can you come face-to-face with your favorites, but characters also give out hugs, pose for pictures and sign autographs, making for a truly memorable experience. That said, due to their popularity, character meet-and-greets also have the potential to be very time-consuming, which can make them a hard sell for those with an already jam-packed vacation.
Character dining can be a great alternative if you have a bit of wiggle room in your travel budget. Though on the pricier side, a character meal allows you to combine a close-up character encounter with breakfast, lunch or dinner, saving you time without skimping out on the Disney magic.
If youâre short on both time and money, your best bet is to go to a character sighting (AKA a socially distanced interaction that takes up only a minute or two and is perfect for snapping a selfie from afar) or catch your favorite in either a stage show or a character-themed attraction. Alternatively, while theyâre not offered at Disneyâs Hollywood Studios, if youâre visiting a park like Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom, you can also take in a parade or cavalcade.
In general, Hollywood Studios character meet-and-greets and sightings start at or shortly after the park opening and continue through the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the character. Certain characters with permanent meet-and-greet locations, such as Mickey and Minnie or Chewbacca and Darth Vader, will meet continuously throughout the day, while other characters greet guests intermittently. Use the My Disney Experience app for current characters, appearance times and locations.
Yes! Though you wonât find Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse strolling down Hollywood Boulevard, there are some Hollywood Studios characters that do roam the park, particularly those in Stars Wars: Galaxyâs Edge. There, Star Wars characters like Rey, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren and the Storm Troopers can be spotted around Black Spire Outpost, whether hanging out near an X-Wing Fighter or surveying the crowd from above a garage.
Another area you might see characters frolicking about is in front of The Hollywood Brown Derby. The fenced-in lawn nearby is a prime picnic spot for Chip ânâ Dale. And while they donât sign autographs or give hugs, it sure is fun to spend a few minutes watching those rascally chipmunks do their thing.
Although there isnât an official rule (though there probably should be!), you canât go to Walt Disney World and not meet Mickey Mouse. He is the big cheese, after all. Fortunately, Mickey and his main gal, Minnie Mouse, both greet their adoring fans all day long over on Commissary Lane at Red Carpet Dreams.
Yup! For those traveling to Disney World with young children, chances are that your little ones are going to want to see some of their favorite Disney Junior characters. Happily, these animated pals can be seen in a couple of different locations around Hollywood Studios.
Animation Courtyard is home to Disney Junior Play and Dance!, a live stage show featuring the likes of Vampirina and Doc McStuffins, along with a few Disney Junior character meet-and-greets. Or, you can also treat your kiddos to the Disney Junior Play nâ Dine breakfast at Hollywood and Vine, which is headlined by Doc McStuffins, Vampirina, Fancy Nancy and Goofy.
For many, whether itâs meeting Darth Vader or seeing Minnie Mouse all dressed up in her holiday best at Hollywood and Vine, seeing Hollywood Studios characters can be one of the most memorable parts of a Disney World vacation. Luckily, youâll find a ton of opportunities to see your favorite character at Disneyâs Hollywood Studios, including character meet-and-greets and sightings, stage shows, character dining and, of course, character-themed rides.
Keep reading for the many Disney character experiences available at Hollywood Studios in 2023. However, as these opportunities are subject to change, be sure to check the My Disney Experience app for the current list of character locations and appearance times.
What better way to kick off your day at Disneyâs Hollywood Studios than with a character sighting? Donald Duck and Daisy Duck roll out the red carpet for incoming guests, welcoming them from a balcony overlooking the park entrance. After giving a wave to Daisy Duck or her beau, head up Hollywood Boulevard for another character sighting. Chip ânâ Dale can often be spotted picnicking and snacking on acorns on the lawn in front of The Hollywood Brown Derby.
Once youâre done enjoying the adorable antics of Chip ânâ Dale, make your way over to Red Carpet Dreams on Commissary Lane for a meet-and-greet with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Here, the iconic Disney stars take some time off-set to greet their fans and sign autographs backstage. While the big cheese is all decked out as Sorcerer Mickey, his leading lady dazzles in a pink evening gown.
After leaving Red Carpet Dreams, say âhelloâ to Olaf, everyoneâs favorite snowman, at Celebrity Spotlight in Echo Lake. While youâre there, feel free to give him a warm hug to show him how much you care. Donât worry, he wonât melt! This is also where youâll find Hollywood and Vine, the only character dining location at Disneyâs Hollywood Studios, which is located on the other side of the lake.
There is no Hollywood Studios character meet-and-greet currently offered on Grand Avenue. Refer to the My Disney Experience app for any possible updates.
Star Wars: Galaxyâs Edge
After hugging it out with Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight, leave Tinseltown behind for an out-of-this-world adventure in Star Wars: Galaxyâs Edge. There, youâll come face-to-face with members of both the Resistance and the First Order. Although there isnât an official meet-and-greet, several different Star Wars characters can be spotted roaming around Batuu, including Rey, Vi Moradi and Kylo Ren. Youâll also want to keep an eye out for patrols of First Order Stormtroopers, who have been known to heckle unsuspecting guests as they explore Black Spire Outpost.
Afterward, say âgoodbyeâ to Galaxyâs Edge (or, as they say in Black Spire Outpost, âmay the Spires keep youâ) before strolling over to Toy Story Land just next door. While he isnât always there, Buzz Lightyear has been known to appear near the Toy Story Land main entrance. Or, if heâs too busy fighting the evil Emperor Zurg, you can pose with a Buzz Lightyear statue near Alien Swirling Saucers.
This is also where youâll usually find two of the rootinest, tootinest characters from Toy Story, Woody and Jessie. If youâre lucky, you might even see some Green Army Men out patrolling the area. So, be sure to snap a selfie if you have the chance.
There is no Hollywood Studios character meet-and-greet currently offered in Pixar Place. Refer to the My Disney Experience app for any possible updates.
Next, itâs on to the character-palooza that is Animation Courtyard. The first character youâll come to if youâre walking from Toy Story Land is Sulley, more formally known as James P. Sullivan. The lovable blue-and-purple monster from Monsters, Inc. has a meet-and-greet at Walt Disney Presents, a museum-like exhibit filled with fascinating artifacts from Walt Disneyâs life. Once youâve finished exploring the Walt Disney Presents gallery, stick around for a showing of Walt Disney: One Manâs Dream, a poignant, 15-minute film about the visionary creatorâs journey.
From there, continue further into Animation Courtyard for even more character encounters. Disney Junior characters, including Doc McStuffins, Fancy Nancy and Vampirina, meet and greet their young fans just outside Disney Junior Play and Dance. This is also where you can see Mickeyâs best pal, Pluto.
Also at Animation Courtyard is Star Wars Launch Bay. Not only does this immersive exhibit feature movie props, costumes and more from the galaxy far, far away, but Star Wars Launch Bay is also the official meet-and-greet location for three different characters: BB-8, Chewbacca and Darth Vader.
Last but not least, wander down Sunset Boulevard towards The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror for an especially goofy character sighting. Thatâs right, Goofy and his son Max wave at guests from the balcony of The Hollywood Tower Hotel.
Although meet-and-greets are the most popular way to see characters at Disneyâs Hollywood Studios, they certainly arenât the only way to catch a glimpse of your favorite Disney pals. Depending on how much time you have and the size of your budget, you can also see them in stage shows, during a character meal and on rides at Hollywood Studios.
Kick back and relax for this tale as old as time. With beloved songs, a lavish set and a talented cast of characters, Beauty & The Beast Live on Stage brings this romantic fairy-tale musical to lifeâno pricey Broadway ticket required. Unless youâre heading to Fantasmic (which we highly recommend you do), this is also the only place to see these characters at Disneyâs Hollywood Studios. So, be sure to see the show if youâre a Beauty and the Beast fan.

One of our favorite ways to see characters at Disney World is during character dining. Like Cinderellaâs Royal Table in Magic Kingdom, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall and Garden Grill Restaurant in Epcot, Tusker House Restaurant in Animal Kingdom and Chef Mickeyâs at Disneyâs Contemporary Resort, Hollywood and Vine offers character dining all day long. However, unlike those other character meals, this lively table-service restaurant features two different groups of characters depending on when you eat.
In the morning, the Hollywood and Vine character breakfast features appearances by Disney Jr. characters alongside AM favorites like eggs benedict, french toast and chicken & waffles.
