Here are a few Ohm's law examples using circuits. Ohm's law equation is V = I * R, or any version of this formula rearranged. It should be noted that Ohm's law only works if the temperature remains constant. For example, in a lightbulb that produces heat, Ohm's law cannot be applied.
V = I * R
V = 20 * 200
V = 4000 volts
V = I * R is the same as I = V / R
I = 250 / 0.2
I = 1250 amps
V = I * R is the same as R = V / I
R = 12 / 120
R = 0.1 Ohms
Electrical power, measured in watts, can be calculated using Ohm's law. The power formula is P = V * I. If given voltage and current, this is easy to calculate by plugging in numbers. By substituting Ohm's formula, power can be calculated with resistance as well.
Given the power formula: P = V * I and Ohm's law: V = I * R
The power formula could be P = (I*R) * I by substituting Ohm's law in for the voltage. This simplifies to {eq}P = I^{2}R {/eq}
The power formula could be P = V (V/R) by substituting Ohm's law in for current. This simplifies to {eq}P =\frac{V^{2}}{R} {/eq}
Here is an example of calculating power using Ohm's law.
Since the givens are R and V, use the power formula with those variables. {eq}P =\frac{V^{2}}{R} {/eq}
{eq}P =\frac{12^{2}}{10} {/eq}
P = 14.4 watts
Most circuit analysis is more complex and requires knowledge of Kirchhoff's rules. The first rule is known as the junction theorem. The junction theorem says the sum of the currents into a junction equal the sum of the currents out of the junction.
