Rule: Divide the number of seconds by 60 to convert seconds to minutes.

60 seconds makes 1 minute.

Now, given the “X” number of seconds, we divide the number by 60 to determine how many minutes have passed.

Example 1: Convert 300 seconds to minutes.

Use the above formula 1 Second $= 1/60$ minute.

300 seconds $= 300/60$ minutes $= 5$ minutes.

Hence, we can say that, if 300 seconds have passed, it means 5 minutes have passed.

Example 2: Many a time, we get the answer in decimals while converting seconds into minutes. This decimal indicates the number of seconds leftover. For instance,

7890 seconds $= 7890/ 60 = 131.5$ minutes

This means that there are 131 minutes plus an extra 0.5 of a minute.

0.5 of a minute $= 0.5 \times 60$ seconds $= 30$ seconds

Therefore, 7890 seconds $= 131$ minutes and 30 seconds.

5. Raghav talked to his mother over the phone for 216 seconds. How many minutes did Raghav spend on the phone?

Solution: The given number of seconds $= 216$

Divide 216 by 60.

So, 216 seconds $= 216/60 = 3.6$ minutes

Hence, Raghav spent 3.6 minutes on the phone.
