We've received quite few questions on whether yogurt is safe during pregnancy. So this week we're looking specifically at that issue.
Dairy foods, including yogurt, are encouraged as a healthy choice during pregnancy as they are the most readily available and absorbable source of dietary calcium. In line with dietary guidelines for all adults, pregnant women are encouraged to make the majority of their dairy choices reduced fat.
There is some confusion about the appropriateness of yogurt as a food during pregnancy. Women are advised to avoid certain foods during pregnancy and this includes soft cheeses, soft serve ice-cream as well as unpasteurised dairy foods. These foods may carry the listeria bacteria which can increase the risk of an infection called listeriosis, which may be harmful to the growing foetus.
Pasteurised dairy foods, which include commercial milks and yogurts, are safe during pregnancy as long as you have checked the use-by-date. It’s important to not confuse the “good” probiotic bacteria, known as aBc cultures in Yoghourt, with harmful listeria bacteria. Yogurts like those from, 5AM, Chobani, Jalna Dairy Foods and others are all pasteurised and therefore safe to consume during pregnancy.
Are Dineamic ready meals safe in pregnancy?
Absolutely! When it comes to food while pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend eating a variety of nutritious foods. Shop now
Nutritional needs are increased during the breastfeeding phase especially in protein, B vitamins, iodine, and calcium. If you are not obtaining enough of these nutrients from your diet then your body’s stores may become depleted or your milk supply may be affected. It's important to eat regularly to meet your energy needs and drink plenty of water.
As Dineamic offers ready to eat chilled meals (what the food industry considers 'high risk'), we take extra precautions to ensure the safety and hygiene requirements are adhered to at a high level.
Listeria can cause serious illness for those at higher risk including pregnant women and their unborn child(ren) if present in contaminated food. These are found widely in nature but can be found in raw or cooked foods contaminated by raw food. We advise that you follow the heating instructions on our packaging and heat the food to steaming hot. Do not consume meals that are past their use-by date.
Once opened, you should eat the meals as soon as you can and do not store them back into the fridge after they have been reheated.
Let's face it, that's a lot to take in. Who really wants to go through working out what kind of foods to eat, when to eat it, how much to eat of it when you know you can get it delivered to your doorstep all pre-prepared, portioned out and made with nothing but love?

Since they don't have roots, the cuttings need to take water from the air. If you keep the humidity above 80% for the first two days, there should be no problems.
The temperature is very important in the process of germination. We should keep the cuttings in a place where we can establish 21o or so.
If the temperature goes up and the plants are dehydrating, we could have a problem with leaf mold. The rooting would be slowed down if the temperature dropped below 19o.
Once cut, the mother plant's cuttings should be placed in a glass of water. The stem will absorb some water and prevent air bubbles from being trapped in the stem, which can cause something similar to a thrombus.
It is very comfortable to cut and place in the glass, and they could take root in the same glass of water if you renewed the water.
In aeroponic systems, the only materials used are perlite and vermiculite. It doesn't have to be a large amount of nutrients since there is almost no demand for them at first. This opens up a wide range of possibilities in terms of supporting our clones, and therefore offers a lot of variety in the techniques to be used.
What roots a cutting is the knot or pair of leaves, so the cut must always be a little below that knot or pair of knots that we want to root -one cm is enough-, we remove the leaves from that knot and we could already apply rooting hormones although many people recommend superficially scraping that knot first to help and speed up the process.
It doesn't have to be high power, with low intensity fluorescents, but the light should be white spectrum. I use a 150w Agrolite for my clones, but it could be done with 18w leds or fluos.
Let's get down to business now that we have these clear points.
To make the clones, we need the following.
Jiffys
Arlita or expanded clay.
The hormones are being rooted.
The cutout was removed.
Scissors or scalpels.
Mother plant.
If you use a small cutting with 5L of clay, it is enough to remove the dust from the clay. I put a layer of fingers at the bottom of the cutting after washing it.
I put the jiffys in warm water and they are hydrated.
I fill a glass with warm water and with the scissors I begin to clean the stem, one cm below the short knot at an angle of 45º and I leave the cuttings in the glass, like this until I take out all the ones I want and return the stem to its place to take another. If the next mother plant is a different variety, I use a glass of water marked with the variety that I am going to clone.
I like taking small cuts, a knot, instead of root and superior ones. I am more convinced by the little ones when it comes to the growers who grow larger cuttings, because they gain time for the vegetative period later.
The mother plants only leave their climate for a moment to quickly return to it and we already have the cuttings prepared with the arlita, the swollen jiffys and glasses of water.
The next step is to trim the tips of the leaves, this will give us more space so that they don't touch and dehydration. I have the cutting ready to apply the rooting hormones after removing the first pair of lower leaves.
I prefer gel because it sticks better to the stem and there are growers who use both.
They soak in the gel and then pass the stem impregnated with the powder into the support.
Clonex, the most famous of these gels, is going through red tape to be able to continue to be marketed in Spain. There are many options, such as root it, vitrovit, and conjugate.
The knot is introduced into the jiffy with the help of the gel and cutting. I usually open the hole a little before, so as not to force the stem and above all to prevent the gel from remaining on the surface, once inside, squeeze the jiffy that will release its excess water and make sure that the peat remains in contact with the knot that we have buried.
It is not necessary to tie a knot when I use normal thread from any sewing kit at home because it sticks in the humid environment. Once this is done, I put it in a mini greenhouse and keep doing the same with all the other cuttings.
When they are all inside, place the tray in the place where they will be until they have roots, and then add two fingers of water in one of the small cuttings that measure 34x 24x16 cm.
If you add three fingers of clay, a liter of water is usually enough.
