Children need rules and limits in order to know what is expected of them and this gives them security and control. Children feel safe when they know their parents are good at making and enforcing rules. When children don't trust their parents, they experience a lot of distress. That distress can lead to more behavior problems.
If you repeat the same orders over and over again, your words and authority will not be valid.
How do you get your children to listen to you and follow the rules so that they don't end up out of control?
Set rules at home.
A clear list of written rules can be used to reduce chaos. Ground rules like "Use kind words" and "Ask before you borrow" should be the focus. Rules can be written down and discussed as a family.
All of you should sit down together and talk about what rules are necessary in your home, write them down and leave them in a place where they will be visible. There must be negative consequences in case of breaching those rules.
The day needs to be structured.
Introduce more structure into your child's day to get the family into a routine. Homework, school study, chores, dinner, family activities, and play can be created by creating time.
Try to stick to the program as much as possible. It is important that the day is structured so that flexibility is not needed.
Do chores for your children.
If your children are 5 or 15 years old, you should assign them regular and daily tasks according to their ability and age. Get your children to do chores so they become more responsible members of the family.
