Emily In Paris is here to stay, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what's store for Lily Collins' fashionable character in the City of Love when season three drops on December 21.
Over a year after Netflix subscribers were delighted with season one of the show, which sees its lead, Emily Cooper (Collins), navigate her marketing job, complicated love life and friendships in Paris, in December 2020, the streaming platform released season two of the programme ahead of Christmas 2021.
Season two debuted in the Global Netflix Top 10 and topped the list across 94 countries with 107.6 million hours viewed in its first four days of airing, from December 22 to December 26, 2021.
At the beginning of the second season, fans saw Emily pick up the pieces after her love affair with Gabriel, endure a turbulent friendship with her friend Camille, fall for her new love interest Alfie, learn that Sylvie is leaving Savoir, and decide she wants to join her Paris team full-time instead of returning to Chicago. She also, ultimately, learned that Gabriel and Camille are back together and have moved into the apartment beneath hers.
After fans questioned whether there would be a third season of Emily In Paris, amid rumours Emily might make a move to Berlin (thanks to Collins’ teasing on Instagram), earlier in 2022 Netflix confirmed that a third and fourth season are on their way.
Season three filming wrapped up in September, after it began in June 2022, and aired just before Christmas 2022.
While fans continue to love the Paris-based drama (I mean, how could you not?), it appears one fan has spotted a major editing error in the third episode.
During the episode Emily walks around Madeline's swish hotel room after being informed that their Chicago parent company is closing its Parisian office. In the scene, it appears there's not one but two separate Eiffel Towers outside two different windows.
'Paris as a city is a sooo big fan of Emily, they decided to make one more Eiffel Tower just next to old one,' one TikTok user shared in a post. A fan jokingly commented on the post: 'Not many people know this but the Eiffel Tower actually moves so it's visible from all directions, it's to maximise aesthetics.'
'Fun fact: the Eiffel Tower exists outside of space-time and can appear within eyesight of anyone in Paris no matter which direction they're facing,' quipped another, while another wrote: 'After season 2 the French government built a new tower as a thanks to Netflix.'
Collins shared just how emotional she felt now that filming has ended via an Instagram post she shared on September 28. The actor posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos of herself with the cast, including shots of her and co-star/pal Ashley Park hugging and pulling goofy faces.
She wrote in an accompanying caption: 'Words can’t express how many emotions I feel when I finish each @emilyinparis season and this year is no different. We truly have the best, most dedicated crew there is and a cast I can call a family. Thank you for supporting, uplifting, and encouraging endlessly and working tirelessly to make it all happen [sic].'
And as if we weren't excited enough for the third season, which is out now on Netflix, she concluded: 'I can’t wait to share what we’ve created. Proud doesn’t even do it justice. Je vous aime tous!… [sic].'
At the Ralph Lauren SS23 fashion show in California in October 2022, the actor told Entertainment Tonight what fans can expect from season three. 'More love triangles, more drama, more laughs, more fashion, more locations, more France!' she said, before adding that there will be 'a lot of cliffhangers'.
Speaking of her work as a producer on the show, she noted: 'It's been incredible. 'I've learned so much and I'm super grateful for the team to inspire me to continue voicing myself and owning my ideas, and it's been a dream job.'
Teasing fans about what's in store of Emily in the next instalment, make-up artist Aurélie Payen commented: 'Love you so much and miss you already. You are a dream to work with and you make every days a joy. Can’t wait for the world to meet the new Emily [sic].'
Park (Mindy) wrote: 'To the moon and back with you my Lils [sic].'
Camille Razat (also Camille) echoed that sentiment when writing: 'Love you lil [sic].'
From the looks of seasons three teasers it looked as though Emily would be working 'double duty' for Sylvie's new agency and her old boss Madeline Wheeler (Kate Walsh) in season three, as revealed in the November trailer (which you can view at the top of this article). And her love life would be seemingly just as complex.
In a carousel of photos taken during season three filming - a whopping 10 of them - shared by Netflix in September 2022, things would seem to be hotting up between Emily and season two newcomer Alfie, as the pair looked intensely into each other's eyes in one shot. There was also a snap of the fashionable trio - Emily, Mindy and Camille - dining al fresco, which led us to believe Emily and Camille would patch things up.
But, another image showed Emily and Gabriel - who is at the centre of the Emily and Camille spat - looking as though they're in a tense discussion, so clearly not everything would be hunky dory between them all.
The last photo in the series of snaps depicted Emily's colleagues all stood together and looking onwards in disapproval.
During an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in March 2022, Collins was asked for her thoughts on online petitions from fans who want her Netflix character to travel to different cities.
'Honestly, I would go all over the world with it, if I could,' she said. 'But the one thing is, like, I just want to go to streets where you can wear flats — because wearing heels, I mean, you wouldn't think how painful that can be in Paris.
'I actually literally went to a podiatrist every week to fix my feet because I was wearing heels all the time,' she added, noting: 'I had to have, like, insoles made for every pair of shoes.'
Actor Lucas Bravo also teased that there will be some pretty big 'twists' in store for fans in season three. 'What made this show successful will be in the next season with more twists,' he told Digital Spy.
'Everything is just amplified. I feel like Darren [Star] went a bit crazy with writing this season. He's living with us and writing as we shoot so he's getting inspired by our own lives, and the things we say, and the places we go to, and he just injects the Darren Star magic bubble in the middle of all that and it just goes sideways.'
On whether he'll be making more delicious omelettes, he said: 'I will make a lot of omelettes. I actually got a lot of pans delivered in the mail. I got like more than 100 pans. I gave pans to all my friends and family. I wish the main instrument for Gabriel was something I can sell.'
In January 2022, Collins took to Instagram to confirm the ‘exciting news’ that Netflix had commissioned a third and fourth series of the hit show, meaning there will be ‘new possibilities’ for her character.
‘I can’t tell if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit but she’d be screaming either way. Truly love you all, thanks so much for the incredible support. Seriously cannot wait for more. Merci Beaucoup!!…’ the actor captioned a photograph of herself wearing a T-shirt printed with her character’s face.
Several of the show's cast members couldn't contain their excitement over the news, with Camille Razat (who plays Camille) commenting: 'Yaaaaay [sic]'
Actor Philippine Leroy Beaulieu (Sylvie) added: 'You look lovely chérie!'
Ashley Park (Mindy Chen) noted: 'YESSSS CUTIIIE HERE WE GO. God I can’t wait to hug youuuuu [sic]'
Netflix also captioned a video on its account: ‘Say "bonjour" to 3 & 4! EMILY IS OFFICIALLY RETURNING FOR TWO MORE SEASONS! [sic]’
Emily in Paris actor and producer Collins returned as Cooper, as well as series favourites including Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Park (Mindy), Razat (Camille), Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Julian (Samuel Arnold) , Luc (Bruno Gouery), and newcomer Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).
At the end of season two Alfie learns that Emily and Gabriel were once an item, but admits to his partner that he has stayed on in Paris to be with her, despite his job returning to London. He even suggests a long-term relationship with Emily.
While Kate Walsh, who plays Cooper’s heavily pregnant Chicago boss Madeleine, made a one-episode cameo in Grey’s Anatomy season 18 as Dr. Addison Montgomery (16 years after making her debut in the hit show), and was about to give birth in Emily in Paris season two, we were pleasantly surprised to see her return for season three.
She travelled to France in June 2022 to film episodes of the series, and when later speaking to PureWow, she joked: I’m not in Paris just eating croissants, adding: 'She’s back. She’s still here.'
The actor, who said she relates to her character 'in some way' but isn't as unapologetic, said fans won't be disappointed, as the third season is 'really good and juicy and funny and unexpected'. We couldn't agree more.
She added: 'So, I think that fans will be really delighted and wildly entertained by what they see. And the stories this year are even more fabulous, more romantic and glamorous and funny in incredible locations.'
In April 2022, Park shared several behind-the-scenes photos from the cast's reunion at the 39th Annual PaleyFest in Los Angeles, and it was everything we could've hoped for and more.
Back in January 2022 Collins and Park - who appear to be close friends IRL now - were spotted on holiday together in the snow with the former's husband, Charlie McDowell.
Sharing photos on Instagram of their time away, Collins captioned one post: 'Snow dump, photo dump…'
Park commented on the post: 'A Frame for the win. Trivial pursuit for the lose (for us). [sic]'
Park also shared a video of her and Collins falling off their sledge and joked in the caption: '(We’re ok. Season 3 & 4 still happenin!) [sic]'
The third instalment dropped on December 21, 2022.
Back in February 2022 Collins shared a behind-the-scenes video of the Emily In Paris wardrobe, starring its famous costume designer Patricia Field, and expressed her wish to return to the set of the series as soon as possible.
'Woke up thinking about this magical closet. Can’t wait to get back to work on @emilyinparis with this living legend, @patriciafield, the incredibly inspiring and innovative @mshangaimx, and their amazing team!… [sic],' the actor captioned the video. It showed off her character's eclectic wardrobe featuring feathers, neon colours, and prints as well as numerous pairs of shoes and handbags.
'I want to live in there,' commented Queer Eye's Tan France.
'Literally woke up thinking the same,' added Collins' co-star, Park.
We'll continue to update the article as more information comes in.
Yes. Netflix released an official trailer on Wednesday, November 30.
In the video clip, Emily appears to be back in the City of Light, but 'pulling double duty', as her best pal Mindy notes.'This is the hardest decision I've ever had to make,' Collins says in the clop, seemingly doubting whether she's made the right decision, and admitting to grappling with 'existential angst'.
Sylvie quips: 'That's so American.'
It doesn't seem that her angst is all related to work though, as she's still in the middle of a messy love triangle with Gabriel and Alfie, too, of course.
During a late night care ride, Gabriel tells her 'you changed my life', but Emily and Alfie jet off on a romantic holiday to a French wine country, where they experience a hot air balloon ride over a château. 'We always talk about work life balance and right now I am all about life,' Emily says, before the clip cuts to a collage of scenes from the series.
The trailer's tagline at the end reads: 'Whatever you choose, choose Paris.'
A previous teaser for the series, released in September 2022, introduced Emily making a bold fashion when it comes to her hair.
She pours herself a glass of wine and gets out a pair of scissors. Cue: roommate and best friend Mindy, who joins her in the bathroom and shouts: 'Emily, no!'
Gabriel also questions her choices and wonders if she's ok, leading her to say: 'They're just bangs! Okay, sometimes people cut bangs when everything's fine!'
