The prefix "sec" or "s" is used when the functional group is bonded to a secondary carbon. This prefix is only useful for a four-carbon chain. It is not applicable with a shorter chain, and it is often ambiguous when the chain has five or more carbons.

Answer:

⇒ KCl is strongly polar.

Explanation:

Potassium chloride (KCl) is a strongly polar ionic compound made up of oppositely charged potassium (K+) and chloride (Cl–) ions with a high electronegativity difference.

All ionic compounds are polar in nature.

As per Pauling’s electronegativity scale, polar ionic bonds are formed between atoms/ions having electronegativity differences greater than 1.6 units between the bonded atoms.

A high electronegativity of 2.34 units exists between potassium (E.N = 0.82) and chlorine (E.N = 3.16) in a unit cell of KCl.

As 2.34 > 1.6, so each K+Cl– bond is polar with a high dipole moment value (symbol µ).

Oppositely charged cation (K+) and anion (Cl–) are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction.

Consequently, potassium chloride (KCl) is a polar ionic compound.
