In this guide I’ll share with you:

Queenstown is a beautiful town with plenty of accommodation options to suit every budget and need. Whether you’re looking for a luxury hotel or a cozy B&B, there’s sure to be something for you in Queenstown, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind when picking your lodging.

Do you want to be in the heart of the action or a little outside of town in a calmer area? Do you want to be within walking distance of all the bars and restaurants or you don’t mind a short drive into town? Are there any specific activities you have planned and want to be close to?

Parking in Queenstown Downtown can be difficult, so if you’re planning on renting a car, make sure your accommodation has parking available. But if you decide to stay a little bit out of the center then you’ll have plenty of roadside parking.

Queenstown accommodation ranges from budget hostels and motels to luxury hotels and lodges, but in peak season the prices jump up across the board and the best accommodation tends to get booked out. If you’re visiting in the high season it’s recommended you book your lodging well in advance to get a good deal and snug a nice place to stay before they’re gone.

Queenstown is divided into several different areas, each with their own unique vibe. The first step in finding the best accommodation in Queenstown is to decide which area you want to stay in.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the best areas to stay in Queenstown:

Here’s an in-depth guide to the best accommodation options for each area of town. I’ll give you options for every budget and accommodation type, including some very unique and remote accommodation options for the ultimate relaxing getaway (COMING SOON).

This is the most central area of town and where most of the action takes place. If you’re looking to be close to restaurants, bars, and shops, then downtown is the place for you.

Keep in mind that most of central Queenstown is pedestrian only and parking options are rather limited.

Queenstown’s hospitality is top notch and there is a fabulous selection of hotels for you to choose from, especially downtown. These are my top picks and consider location, amenities and service.

Splurge | Eichardt’s Private Hotel

Upper end | The Spire Hotel

Mid-Range | Peppers Beacon

Mid-Range | Crowne Plaza Queenstown

Budget | Scenic Suites Queenstown

Downtown you’ll find some fabulous higher end apartments but there’s options for all budgets. Just keep in mind that most of them have a minimum stay of 2 or 3 nights, depending on the property.

Splurge | Shotover Penthouse & Spa by Staysouth

Upper end | Central Queenstown Luxury Hideaway

Mid-Range | Heart of Queenstown

Budget | Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park

There’s plenty of hosteils in Queenstown and they’re great if you’re backpacking New Zealand and looking for an affordable and fun stay. Absoloot Hostel Queenstown is centraly located, has great views and incredible facilities for a hostel. There’s privacy curtains on every bed and you can get private rooms too.

Queenstown Hill is a residential suburb just above the town’s center. It’s a short walk up the hill and it offers stunning views of the town and lake. If you’re looking for a quieter stay with easy access to town, then Queenstown Hill is the perfect place for you.

There’s plenty of roadside parking on Queenstown Hill and you’ll have easy access to town and hiking paths.

Splurge | The Carlin Boutique Hotel

Upper end | Hulbert House Luxury Boutique Lodge Queenstown

Mid-Range | mi-pad Queenstown

Splurge | Commonage Villas by Staysouth

Upper end | 25 on the Terrace by Amazing Accom

Mid-Range | Central Hideaway on Kent

Budget | Melbourne Lodge

Fernhill is a residential area located just outside of Queenstown. As the name suggests, here you’ll be staying on a hillside (along Tiki Trail) and you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous views over Wakatipu lake and the Remarkables. Accommodation options here are mostly apartments, homes, and B&Bs.

While the views are certainly breathtaking, I have to be honest with you – this is my least favorite part of town. While it’s perfectly fine in summer, it doesn’t get much sun in winter making it quite dark and cold.

Splurge | Fifteen by Amazing Accom

Upper end | Kamana Lakehouse

Mid-Range | Luxe House with View

Budget | Lake Escape

Frankton: This used to be the industrial area of Queenstown and is also home to the airport. In the past, Frankton was one of the less appealing areas to stay in but with the recent development, it’s become a pretty sweet spot. I used to live here and felt this area becoming better and more developed by the minute. Frankton is now home to several shopping centers, restaurants, bars and pubs.

If you’re looking for accommodation that’s close to the airport, cheaper and quieter than downtown, or close to the Remarkables Skifield, then Frankton is the place for you.

Splurge | Hilton Queenstown Resort & Spa

Upper end | DoubleTree by Hilton Queenstown

Mid-Range | Driftaway Queenstown

Budget | Riverside Retreat

Frankton road is the main road that runs along Wakatipu Lake and connects Frankton to downtown Queenstown. This is the sweet spot in between that will reward you with breathtaking views, plenty of sunshine, and fairly easy access to anything you might need. Accommodation options here are mostly apartments and holiday homes.

There’s a beautiful walking path along the shores of Wakatipu lake that runs parallel to Frankton road.

Splurge | The Rees Hotel & Luxury Apartments

Upper end | Penthouse Luxury – The Rata

Mid-Range | Apartments at Spinnaker Bay

Budget | Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort

Kelvin Heights is located on the peninsula across the lake from town. If you’re looking for accommodation that’s close to nature and away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, then Kelvin Heights is the place for you.

From Kelvin Heights, you can hop on a water taxi to easily reach downtown.

Upper end | The Lakehouse

Mid-Range | Sunny Lakeview Villa

Mid-Range | Holly Court Haven

Budget | Tranquil Heights Holiday Home

This quaint little town is located about 20 minutes from Queenstown and is the perfect place to stay if you’re looking for a quiet retreat.

Arrowtown is especially stunning in Autumn.

Splurge | Millbrook Resort

Upper end | The Goldmine Arrowtown Holiday Home

Mid-Range | MJ’s Cottage Arrowtown

Budget | Settlers Cottage Motel

There is an international airport in Queenstown and most people will fly in here. Landing in Queenstown is a treat of its own so make sure to secure a window seat as the views over Dart Valley, Wakatipu Lake and Aspiring National Park will make your jaw drop.

Queenstown is serviced by a small airport with regular flights from Australia and New Zealand. The Queenstown airport is located in Frankton, about a 15-minute drive from downtown Queenstown. From the airport, town is easily accessible by car, taxi or bus.

Book this airport shuttle to your accommodation. Or better yet, hire a rental car so you’ll have more flexibility and you’ll be able to do some of the day trips and scenic drives in the area.

Queenstown city center is fairly small and mostly closed to traffic so walking is your best bet. Most tours and activities will pick you up in town or at your accommodation so you can get by without a car if you’re staying central.

If you want to explore Wanaka, Glenorchy, Arrowtown or the wider surroundings then renting a car is your best bet. You’ll also need wheels if you’re staying in Fernhill, Frankton or further out of town.

Often I struggle to suggest enough good restaurant options but with Queenstown I’m struggling to narrow it down to just a few. The culinary options in Queenstown are plentiful, diverse and so incredibly good! These are some of my favorites (but there are so many more great restaurants!)

Botswana Butchery – For all you meat lovers, Botswana Butchery is a must! Choose from a selection of fine cuts with the perfect marble score and enjoy the impeccable service.

Bazaar – a marketplace foodie experience with no menu. The journey through the food market starts with desert and ends with the best views over Wakatipu lake and the Remarkables. An experience not to be missed.

Tanoshi Cow Lane – One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to. The sashimi here is something else.

Atlas Cafe – My go-to place for Friday after work beer and steak. I’ve lost count of the hours spent in this little hole in the wall. And if you can’t find the loo, try the fridge door.

The World Bar & Restaurant – Taking pub food to a whole new level and home to teapot cocktails. The World Bar is also a fun place for a few drinks at night.

Taco Medic – Best option for a quick bite on the go. But there is nothing quick about the way the meat was cooked! Braised for 6-12 hours, these tacos will melt in your mouth!

Vudu Cafe – My favorite brunch spot. Try the eggs benny or pancakes and drink all the coffee you can.

The best time to visit Queenstown is in late spring or summer when the days are longer, the weather is warm and the outdoors can become your playground.

Queenstown is also great in winter, especially if you’d like to ski or snowboard in New Zealand.

But in all honesty, any time is a good time to visit Queenstown! This town is lively and filled with amazing things to do no matter the season. Just keep in mind that the peak of summer and peak of winter can get quite busy and pricey.

Queenstown is a treat to visit and here is so much to do and see here! I’m sure you’ll love this little corner of New Zealand, just as you will love the rest of the country.

Now that you know a little more about accommodation in Queenstown, it’s time to start planning your trip! To help you plan your NZ trip I’ve prepared a series of New Zealand travel guides and you can find out more about Queenstown in the articles below.

Good travel insurance is an absolute must when traveling abroad, and I’ve learned that the hard way!

The types of CitiBank credit cards are listed.

This credit card is ideal for people with poor credit histories who can get a line of credit with low deposits and no strings attached.

You can earn points with purchases from supermarkets and gas stations, but you can't earn points anywhere else, that's why many people think the best credit card from CitiBank is CitiRewards+.

Thanks to its bonuses and better earning opportunities, Citi Advantage Platinum is useful for airlines, and it also offers discounts on in-flight food purchases.

The steps to apply for a CitiBank credit card are listed here.

It is not a problem for you to give your personal information since it is protected by CitiBank and prevents hackers from accessing it.

You must wait for CitiBank to approve your request after you fill out the form.

The requirements that CitiBank requests for credit cards are listed below.

You can pay your credit card online, and you must follow these steps.

Credit card interest rates can be as high as 2% or as low as 2%, depending on the time period and how long the applicable interest rate is.

To check the credit card application status, you must do the following.

You must make a cash deposit before opening a credit card account to have greater security.

If the credit card holder doesn't use the card, the issuer will keep the cash deposit and that is called a guarantee.

You have to guarantee your credit card at CitiBank if you want more security.

One of the operators at the CitiBank hotline will answer your call and answer any questions you may have.
