The story is about Han Tae-sang, who is a loan shark. When he is betrayed by his boss, he decides to leave his former gang. Working as a gangster was not his first choice. Also, Han Tae-sang, when he was young, was full of potential. He was forced to work for a gangster after his family was destroyed. Moreover, in the story, Han Tae-sang seems like a dedicated man who believes in hard work. When he started working as a loan shark, he made sure to become successful even if it took blood and sweat.

The story starts with a bookstore owner. One day Han Tae-sang goes to a bookstore with his men to collect a debt. And the only way to do this is to threaten the owner. The bookstore’s owner is Seo Mi-do’s father. He is harassed and threatened by the gangsters while his daughter is away getting free rice at the welfare office. This indicates that Seo Mi-do’s family is not well off. When she is leaving the office, a Tv reporter tries to get her interview. But she is embarrassed to be seen in this situation. She tries to stop the reporter, but it does not work. Then she becomes angry and pushes the reporter, and starts walking away. But someone calls her, saying, “Hey, rude kid. you forgot your free rice”.

When Seo Mi-do reaches the bookstore, she sees many suspicious men. After they leave, she asks her father about them, but he does not tell her the truth about those men. As Tae-Sang is about to go collect the debt the next day, he finds out that the owner has disappeared. He gets really angry and orders his men to him the owner. Eventually, the owner was found by Tae-Sang’s men. After that, they took him to the bookstore. While all this is happening, Mi-Do is still at her private institute, smiling over her highest score in the class. But then she receives a call from her mother about her father’s disappearance.

When Mi-Do arrived at the bookstore, she saw some men threatening her parents. She was fearless and brave against those men. She fought and didn’t give in. When Tae-sang saw her fighting without any concern for herself, he was reminded of himself when he was her age. When Tae-sang was young, his mother had an affair and owned money to the gangster Tae-sang worked for now. Tae-sang’s mother was not able to pay the debt. Because of this, the loan shark’s men beat Tae-sang over his mother’s debt. This incident changed him. He was no more a student with good grades but someone who forced people to pay their debts.

After watching Mi-Do fight and remembering about his past, he saw her report card. Finally, he stopped the fight, and Mi-Do promised to pay the loan by 3 pm on Saturday. And Tae-sang agrees to it. Because of this, his boss no more trusts him. He thinks that Tae-sang has gone soft. When Saturday comes, Mi-Do arrives in front of Tae-sang a few hours after her deadline ends. Also, she does not have the money. So, she offers to sell herself to him in order to pay her debt. And Tae-sang agrees to the offer.

After the matter is settled with Mi-Do, Tae-sang arrives at the birthday party of his boss with his men. Also, the loan shark’s girlfriend Sung-Joo is present there. As the party starts to get going, the loan shark starts to say bad things about Tae-sang’s mother. This is unbearable for him. Tae-sang becomes furious and tells the loan shark that he is quitting and leaves. The next day, Mi-Do is working at the bookstore. Then a man from Tae-sang’s gang appears and hands her a bank book. He tells her that Tae-sang will cover her tuition fees from now on. When she asks him about his sudden generous actions, he replies that if someone would have helped him at that age, his life would have been different.

Later, the loan shark boss puts a target on Tae-sang’s back. He orders his men to kill him. But the loan shark’s girlfriend tips Tae-sang about the men coming to kill him. Thanks to the tip, he is able to escape from the gang. Then he goes to see his former boss. Both of them get into a heated argument. Then loan shark’s men bring Mi-Do to the scene. Tae-sang is worried about her and wants to save her at any cost. He tells her to run away while he stops everyone from going after her. But then the loan shark stabs Tae-sang in the back. And finally, we see him collapse and fall to the ground.

The “When a man loves” drama has an amazing cast. The lead actor Song Seung-Heon plays the role of Han Tae-sang. The actor has done an excellent portrayal of a cold-hearted loan shark. Also, it is a success story where he goes from being a right-hand man to the boss of his own gang. Another main lead of “When a man loves” is Shin Se-Kyung. She plays the character of Seo Mi-do. The character is a girl who attends a private institute and belongs to a poor family.
