I know a lot of you struggle to find whipping cream in your local markets or are unsure of which whipping cream brands to buy. Which is why I am here to solve this everlasting problem and guide you through all the different whipping cream brands in India and where to find them.

Whipping cream largely comes in three categories and these are: Dairy, Non Dairy, and Powdered form. The most commonly available in India is non dairy whipping cream. We will talk about this and more in the article.

Non dairy whipping cream is what is most widely available and is perfect for hot countries like India because non dairy creams are made with soy, hydrogenated vegetable fat, and stabilizers.

This means that even in hot temperatures, the whipping cream will stay stable and will also maintain its freshness, therefore suitable for consumption. The two most common brands include Ric and Tropolite. These two are also the ones that I most commonly use in my kitchen.

Rich is very popular because of its extensive and consistent availability across markets in the country. They also have a plethora of different kinds of whipping creams available. For example, they have Rich’s Gold, Rich Whip Topping, Rich Excel Whip, Rich Silver Whip and the list just goes on and on. Rich also has different flavors like chocolate whipping cream.

You can check out their website to take a look at their immense collection. Before you buy a kind of whipping cream from their website, make sure to read the description of it and then make a decision according to your needs. For example, Rich Excel is said to be the most stable whipping cream that they have and it claims to be perfect for India. However in local stores, the most commonly available are the two basic: Rich’s Whip Topping and Rich’s New Star Whip.

Another point to note is the size of the package available. Rich creams are most commonly available in 2L packs and depending on the type you buy, the price varies. They also manufacture 1L packs but those are not so widely available.

Tropolite only comes in one type and one flavor. Some people prefer Tropolite over Rich in terms of taste and mouthfeel. This depends on person to person. I like using both.

Tropolite is actually widely available in 1L packs which makes it easier to store and use. It is available on amazon and in local stores like Modern Bazaar, and Le Marche.

The process of whipping both rich and tropolite creams are identical, where you just use a bowl and an electric whisk and go at it. Since the non dairy whipping creams are already sweet there is no need to add sugar to it. Price point wise a 2L packaging of Rich costs about ₹450 and tropolite for 1L is ₹210.

Now moving on to the dairy category some of the brands we have include Amul, Purez and Malai Magic. The main difference between dairy and non dairy whipping creams comes from the ingredients that each is made up of.

As discussed above, non dairy creams are made with soy, hydrogenated vegetable fats and stabilizers. Dairy creams on the other hand, as the name suggests are made from dairy (milk). Dairy whipping creams do not have any stabilizers in them and are the ones that have the most original taste. Unfortunately in hot countries like India these are not so popular because they can’t hold their shape in hot temperatures and because they have no additives, the shelf life of dairy creams is very less.

If you are using dairy whipping creams, some things to keep in mind:

Remember,  your regular dairy whipping cream is not sweetened. You will have to add sugar while whipping them.

In dairy creams, Amul is the easiest when it comes to packaging, cause it sells smaller sizes in 200gm and ₹63 packages which means this is perfect for people who do not use whipping cream very often and only need it to amp up a special occasion. However the availability for amul is slightly irregular so it can be hard to get your hands on it.

Purez is another brand that you can get off amazon or big basket which is retailed at ₹125 for 200gm. Malai magic can also be another option that works just like any other dairy cream that you can get for ₹175 for 1L.

Coming onto the last category which is powdered whipping cream. This is available in the Indian markets today from brands like: Weikfield, BakersWhip, Blue Bird, etc.

Powdered whipping cream comes in dry powdered form and these use ingredients like hydrogenated oil, glucose syrup and stabilizers. This is the best product in terms of shelf life because it’s a dry mix and can be stored upto 9 months or so, depending on the brand.

These are super easy to put together. All you need to do is add the dry mix into a bowl, cold milk and mix it well. Freeze it for 15 mins. Then whip it up for 4 minutes before refrigerating it for 15 mins and then using it.

The powdered whipping cream in my opinion stays really well in the fridge even when whipped a day in advance.

Different brands sell these at different prices. Some brands like BakersWhip also have many fun whipping cream flavors like pineapple, chocolate, and strawberry. BakersWhip you can find on Amazon and the powders are around ₹375 for a 450gms packet. Puramio is another brand that is available on Amazon for ₹263 per 250gm packet. There is also Puramate on amazon for ₹115 per 100gm packet.

I like storing these in the freezer so as to when I need them I can defrost accordingly. However in the extreme cold winter months they will also keep for longer in the refrigerator, this will save your time and effort in defrosting the cream before every use.

These have a very short shelf life as compared to non dairy whipping creams. Depending on the brand, their shelf life varies from 3-6 months. These should always be stored in the refrigerator.

These can be stored for 9 months or more. Once opened, you can seal back the packet and store these at room temperature.
