If you've never installed Linux, you may be intimidated by how extensive this is. I want to explain everything as thoroughly as possible so that it is very clear, so don't be afraid by the length of the text. It's an easier process than it seems, and you'll be able to master it soon.

You probably know all of these processes if you are a Linux expert. Since we are in Xataka Basics, I want people who have never touched Linux or done something similar to do it.

The two methods that are available are the direct option of installing with Windows and the partition method.

The first thing you have to do is choose which distribution you want to use. The distributions that are created from Linux are the heart of all of the other distributions. It is clear that they are different operating systems, but they all share the same base on which they add other elements such as the desktop environment.

We are not going to place any restrictions on the age or power of the PC, unlike the article in which we explained how to install Linux on an old computer.

You will be able to use the distribution you want, starting from a modern computer. The main Linux distributions are listed in Xataka Basics.

There are other aspects that can be taken into account when power isn't a factor.

One is the desktop type, which will give you a choice. It's not a decisive factor that would make you choose one or the other, since some distributions have different versions with different desktop environments.

The most obvious factor is support and ease of use. Arch Linux is a very versatile and modular distribution that requires advanced knowledge. When it comes to seeking help, it can be difficult to understand many of the things that are explained, and it can still be a bit complex.

Linux Mint and Ubuntu are both distributions based on another one called Debian. The two distributions are ideal for the first time audience.

They have a common catalog of applications, and the solutions to problems for one can often be used for the other.

They are two of the most popular distributions out there, which means that there are hundreds of forums and communities created around them where you can find help when you run into problems. It will be one of them that we choose for the article.

The bits of the operating system have to be the same as the ones on the computer's processor. You can see the parts of your computer you use.

If you are 64, all the distributions have a version for it, but if you are 32, you'll have to look for a version that still has a version for older computers.

I chose to use Ubuntu because it is the best known and one of the ones giving the most push outside of the Linux sector.

If you want a more familiar experience, you may be more swayed by Linux Mint or Kubuntu, as their interface is not as similar to Windows. ElementaryOS is one of the clearest options if you want a more similar interface to the macOS.

When choosing a distribution, it's important to consider whether it can work with Windows Secure Boot protection.

It is a protection that can block the start of some linux distributions if strange applications are allowed to run before Windows starts. If you are going to use another distribution, you should look at its documentation to see if it is prepared for this protection.

In the event that you want to use a distribution that does not come prepared for secure boot, we explain how to disabling it from the UEFI. It is possible that there are cases in which you can't deactivating the mode on your computer.

I have done a clean install of Windows 10 on my computer, which I used for this tutorial.

Modification of the partition on the hard drive will be the first step in making room for the new tenant. The operating system is from Microsoft. To format hard disk partition, you need to enter the application and type in the name of the partition you wish to format.

Click on drive C: or the secondary hard drive if you are going to install the Linux distro. You must click on the Reduce volume option if you want to do things with the unit. This option will allow you to reduce the partition of the hard drive and leave more space for other things.

The process is simple because you will have a single partition on the disk. If you want to install the Linux distribution on a partitioned hard drive, you will have to choose the partition you want to use and the option to reduce the volume.

You have to choose how much space you want to free from the hard drive partition when the screen opens. The only thing you can write is the size of the space in MB in which you want to reduce the partition, which will be the same space you leave free.

You can see the available space above the figure, and below the space that will be left for Windows once you have made the reduction. The quantity has been decided and you should reduce it.

The Disk Management application will show you a black space on the hard drive where you have made it unallocated after you make the changes.

The hard drive memory is not partitioned and is the size you set before. We will use this memory later to install the Linux distro.

We are going to make a bootableusb with which to install your choice of operating system. The first step is to download the ISO file. You can download the version you need from the download page of Ubuntu.

You can see the latest release and the older version. If you're a first timer, I recommend installing theLTS versions because they are more stable and long-maintenance.

ISO files are the format used to store an exact copy of an optical drive file system.

You can make copies of the operating system on other DVDs and on ausb if you have what's inside a CD or DVD.

You have to download the application to create the bootableusb after you have the ISO image. You can choose from many, but we decided to go withRufus because he was a great reference in this field for a long time.

Click on the latest version to download it if you go to the officialRufus website.

Double click on the application after it has downloaded.

You won't need to install anything as it will start. If the device field at the top of the screen is empty, you have a problem. Select the ISO image you want to create the bootableusb from, then click on the option to create the device.

A file browser will open when you click Select. You have to find and select the.ISO file from the downloads section, and then press the open button to select it.

The rest of the default options are correct if you have selected the ISO file. If you want to change something for the specific specifications of your computer, leaving everything as it is and pressing the Start button is enough to create yourusb.

When you click Start, the version of the syslinux bootloader that it uses will be older than the ISO requested. To connect to the Internet and download the version he needs, you must press the Yes button.

You will be told by another window that the ISO you have downloaded can be written to yourusb in two different ways.

You should leave the Write in ISO image mode option selected and press the OK button.

Rufus will warn you that by carrying out this process you will lose all of the data on theusb you are going to use.

If you're satisfied, click on the OK button and it will begin to prepare the bootableusb. Once the process is complete, you can remove the USB and start the new computer.

You have to boot the computer from theusb. To turn on the computer, you need to insert theusb into the slot, and then press the key that launches the drive to boot. This should be F12 but it can be other things like F1, F8, F9, F10, or ESC, depending on the PC.

When you see the menu, select the drive you want to use and press Enter to start the computer.

The first screen that will appear when you boot theusb is the language. If you don't have the language you want to use, you can click on it with the mouse or pressing Enter.

You can enter the main screen if you choose a language. You will be able to start the installation from theusb itself.

I recommend that you try the option without installing it. Once you are inside, you can start the installation with the advantage that you have already tried it, so you can decide if you want to install it or not.

You can explore the operating system without having to install it, if you prefer, because it will start via ausb. If you want to proceed, you should run the installation application on your desktop. In most of the distributions, you will find one of these applications.

The installation process can be different depending on the distribution. We're going to stick to the same process as in many other distributions, and that's the Ubuntu process.

The first screen is an introduction, and you only have to click Next to continue.

The keyboard layout is going to be turned.

The layout of the keys on the keyboard of your computer or laptop should be configured so that the v is in the middle of the screen and the is in the center. If you don't have a keyboard with the letter, you will have to look for the specific distribution that it uses instead of the Spanish one. Click next when finished.

You will be able to connect to the internet at the screen that you arrive at, something that will allow you to update your system in addition to installing it. If you don't want to connect to the internet at this time, nothing will happen if you are in a place without a connection.

All updates can be done later.

You have to decide how you want the installation to be. It is advisable to choose the normal installation, but you can also choose a minimal one without bloatware in which only the basic utilities are installed, and all the applications you will have to choose from. You can install third-party programs by selecting the last option, which is usually proprietary drivers for components such as your graphics card or WiFi.

You have to decide how you want to do the installation.

It is possible to install Ubuntu with Windows 10 without any problems if you choose the option to do it together. The installation will start automatically if you confirm this selection.

Answer

By increasing the number of spins on the primary coil, a step-up transformer raises low voltage to a greater voltage. The increase in voltage is due to the primary coil's increased number of turns, which results in a drop in the current. This is significant as it allows the use of fewer wires for long-distance power transmission. To enhance the voltage of an electrical current, a step-up transformer is employed. It accomplishes this by converting a low voltage input to a greater voltage output. The primary coil of a step-up transformer has a larger number of turns than the secondary coil.

A step-up transformer is a transformer that converts high current and low voltage from the primary side into the soft wind and high voltage values on the secondary side. Just like a step-down transformer, just reverse the step-up transformer. It is well-known that with the help of the primary side winding, which turns the electrical energy in the magnetic core of the transformer into magnetic energy, the secondary side of the transformer converts it into electrical energy. Any transformer can theoretically be used as a step-up and a step-down transformer. It is solely dependent on the direction of energy flow.

The core of the transformer and the windings play a vital role in the manufacturing of step-up transformers, which are explained in detail below.

The winding in a step-up transformer aids in the current passage to the transformer. The secondary winding wire is thinner and has many turns, whereas the primary winding wire is thicker and has fewer turns. The primary winding, in general, takes less power voltage than the secondary winding, which aids in the use of greater voltage power. Copper and aluminum are the materials used in winding a step-up transformer.

Step up transformer

Thin silicon steel is used to make the core and it is also called the ‘magnetic core’. The precipitating material utilized in the core's construction is designed to allow the magnetic flux to flow freely. For the body, less coercive materials like silicon steel are preferred. The main feature is that it improves the transformer's efficiency, which reduces the magnetic field lines in the air.

Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction and mutual induction governs the operation of the transformer. On the transformer core, there are normally two coils: the main coil and a secondary coil. Strips are used to connect the core laminations. The mutual inductance of the two coils is very high. A fluctuating magnetic flux is created when an alternating current passes through the primary coil. This shift in magnetic flux induces an emf (electromotive force) in the secondary coil, which is connected to the primary coil, according to Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. The term for this is ‘mutual induction’.

Schematic diagram of the transformer

A schematic diagram of a step-up transformer is shown in image 2, with T1 and T2 representing the turns of the primary and secondary windings and V1 and V2 representing the input and output voltages, respectively. The transformer's output winding is the secondary winding, whereas the primary winding is the transformer's input winding. The secondary winding of a step-up transformer has more wire turns than the primary. Hence, the output voltage is higher than the input voltage.

A step-up transformer's current is an alternating current, which flows in one direction before reversing and floating in the opposite direction when the wind is halted. The magnetic field's north and south poles are changed when the current reverses. A magnetic field is created around the wire or the winding by the flow of electricity.

The magnetic field induces a voltage in the wire in the step-up transformer. When a step-up transformer is put in a moving magnetic field, voltage is generated in the second coil. The alternating current in the primary winding produces a moving magnetic field that induces a voltage in the secondary winding, known as ‘mutual induction’.

The following equation describes the relationship between the number of turns in the step-up transformer and the voltage in each coil:

$\dfrac{T_2}{T_1}=\dfrac{V_2}{V_1}$

Where,

V1 = Voltage in the secondary coil, V2 = Voltage in the primary coil.

T2 = Turns on the secondary coil, T1= Turnson the primary coil.

Here, the application of the step-up transformer has been explained which are as follows:

Conclusion

Step-up transformers are essential for transmitting power from generating stations to remote places where it must be sent to a utility facility. Power generation and transmission systems rely heavily on step-up transformers. As an essential part of the electrical grid, these generating stations are often positioned distantly from populated areas.
