It is important for the Christian church to teach and fulfill what the Bible says about marriage. The biblical position regarding divorce and a second marriage must be expressed by the Church, as it is often the case when one of the spouses abandons their commitment and their ethical-Christian responsibilities.

There are marriage issues before conversion. There are some Christians who have become entangled in their marriage relations in their former life of sin and who do not see how they can be adjusted. We recommend that these people be accepted into the local assembly and that their problems be left in the hands of the Lord.

Considering that the New Testament forbids divorced and remarried believers from holding church offices as bishops or elders, and deacons, we recommend that this policy be upheld by all our assemblies (1 Timothy 3:12; Titus 1: 5-9), with the exception of consummated divorce before the conversion of the person (2 Corinthians 5:17) or for the biblical causes of marital infidelity of the previous spouse (Matthew 19:9), or the abandonment of the believer by an unbeliever (1 Corinthians 7:10-15). It is understood that the causes of infidelity and abandonment also apply after conversion.

The local assembly has a prerogative. The local assembly must maintain their own standards according to the provisions of the Constitution, but the recommendations are not mandatory.

The presiding over the wedding ceremonies.

The guidelines are for ministers.

We don't approve of an Assemblies of God minister presiding over a marriage ceremony for someone who has been divorced and whose former spouse is still living, unless the case is exceptional.

It is not required to violate conscience. The minister is not obliged to preside over the ceremony if remarrying persons are included in the exceptional circumstances of article IX, B, Section 5, paragraph b.

There are ceremonies for the same sex. Same-sex marriage, cohabitation, and pact ceremony will not be presided over by a minister.

Such a ceremony would endorse homosexuality which is against the rules of God's Word. Any minister who presides over a ceremony for these types of relationships will be kicked out of the fellowship.

Advice. The use of biblical guidelines for Christian marriage should be advised by the Assemblies of God minister. The minister may not preside at ceremonies for people who approach marriage without due consideration, wisdom, and sober thought.

We do not condone any married Assemblies of God minister holding credentials if he or his spouse has a former spouse who is still living, with the exception of divorce consummated prior to the person's conversion or for Biblical causes of marital infidelity. of the former spouse (Matthew 19:9), or the abandonment of the believer by the unbeliever (1 Corinthians 7:10-15).
