Chaudhary Charan Singh was the 5th Prime Minister of India. His time in office was brief, lasting from July 1979 to January 1980. However, he is best remembered as the 'champion of India's peasants'. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, he became a towering figure in national politics. His entire political career was built on advocating for the rights of rural communities. He introduced significant land reform bills and focused on strengthening the country's agricultural backbone. His legacy is so profound that his birthday, December 23rd, is now celebrated across India as National Farmers’ Day, also known as Kisan Diwas. It truly cements his place as a leader of the people.
