Pediatrician here. I can't stress the "no Q-tips" rule enough. I see impacted wax and minor injuries from them weekly. The washcloth method is perfect. After a bath, just tilt your baby's head to the side on the towel to let any water that got in the outer ear drain out naturally. If you're worried about "dirty" ears, remember a little earwax is healthy—it's protective. The only time to intervene medically is if a doctor confirms a problem.
