Early symptoms appear between 1 and 12 days after exposure. They look like normal meningitis: - Severe headache - Fever - Stiff neck - Nausea and vomiting Later symptoms include seizures, confusion, and coma. Sadly, by the time these develop, the disease is usually advanced.
