All the physical placement tips above are spot on. I'd also add a simpler software-based check: make sure your gateway's firmware is up to date. You can usually check this in the admin interface (192.168.12.1). Also, if you're in a congested area, try changing the Wi-Fi channel on your gateway to a less crowded one using the admin app. While this doesn't boost the cellular signal, it can improve the Wi-Fi performance from the gateway to your devices. If you've tried everything and the signal is still weak, your only real option might be to call T-Mobile and see if there's a network issue in your area or if you're eligible for their new "4x4 MIMO" gateway.
