The world in which we now live has gone a long way and will continue to expand and develop in a variety of dynamic ways. Humans continue evolve and progress drastically. Several hypotheses, discoveries, inventions, and other advances arose as a result of this evolution and development. Technical advancement is the most significant, important, and mind-blowing of all the developments. The best thing that has occurred to us in this technologically driven world is that we now have a wireless system. The use of fiber optic technology in wireless connections is a notable factor.
Today one network system has taken a giant stride ahead by expanding its long-established function as an entertainment service sector, which encompasses on-demand video and broadcast television, to include a high-speed data service industry.
Cable television is upgrading its existing systems with fiber optic technologies to meet the growing need for communication signal transmission. This feature is most reliable, crucial and beneficial for the cable providers.
The technology in reference to TV is used by many companies and one such company is known as Verizon. It’s an American wireless network operator that was previously known as Verizon Wireless and worked as a separate unit of Verizon communications. Verizon wireless later on in 2019 reorganization was discontinued and the wireless products and services were shifter to Verizon consumer and business. In United States Verizon is the largest wireless carrier with about 121.3 million subscribers by the end of Q2 2021. Basking Ridge, New Jersey is where the company is headquartered in. It was established in 2000 as a joint venture between Bell Atlantic and Vodafone, a British global telecommunication company. After purchasing Vodafone’s 45% of ownership in 2014, Verizon communications became absolute owner of the company.
Coming back to fiber optic technology Verizon owns unit which works with the fiber optics known as Verizon FiOS. Verizon FiOS is also known as FiOS by Verizon is a combined internet, phone and television service that serves over 5 million people in nine states via fiber optic network. FiOS is an abbreviation for Fiber Optic Service. Verizon communication provided service in some areas of the United States but frontier communication provided licensed FiOS service in former Verizon areas across 6 states. But Verizon was among the major carriers responsible for the delivery of fiber to the home and consumer reports gave it high marks among cable and internet service providers.
As there’s an aforementioned text about FiOS in context to television realm so let’s discuss about the FiOS TV service provided by FiOS Verizon. So FiOS by Verizon offers three services: FiOS TV, FiOS internet and FiOS voice. By the end of 2017 there was report by Verizon that it has 4.6 million FiOS TV connections. FiOS bundles from Verizon include high definition and standard definition television, as well as video on demand. Verizon launched its personalized TV bundles in April 2015, allowing consumers to choose from a less number of channel package.
Later on in December 2018 Verizon launched FiOS TV One, a package that includes wireless set top boxes and a new magical remote control which has voice recognition features. The FiOS TV One Mini units are wireless set-top boxes that link to the main FiOS TV One box through Wi-Fi, which made broadcast easier for subscribers to other rooms in the house without the necessity of traditional coaxial cable connections. Nowadays Verizon allows people to experience a FiOS TV test drive.

Fios subscribers in New Jersey who typically watch CW television shows such as “Stargirl” and “The Winchesters” PIX-11 in New York City have been without access to those channels since 11:59 p.m. Friday. NewsNation, Antenna TV and Court TV — which along with the CW are owned by Nexstar Media Group — are also unavailable to Fios customers.
PHL-17 in Philadelphia is also not available on Fios during the dispute but it is a MyNetwork affiliate. In the Philadelphia area, including South Jersey, CW programming is shown on its affiliate WPSG-57.
Each side claimed the other was to blame, with Verizon saying in a statement that it offered to continue to carry the channels while the sides attempted to reach an agreement. Verizon also said Nexstar wants to charge an additional 64% to carry its channels.
“Nexstar declined an extension that we offered to continue negotiations and released a statement spreading false narratives and wrongfully placing blame on Fios,” Verizon said Monday. “Our offer to extend stands; if Nextstar wishes to accept an extension, we can restore signals while the parties continue to negotiate so that customers can access content from Nexstar channels.”
Nexstar offered a different version of what led its channels to vanish from Fios systems in New York City, Philadelphia and eight other markets across the country.
“Nexstar has been negotiating tirelessly and in good faith in an attempt to reach a mutually agreeable multi-year contract with Verizon FiOS, offering the same fair market rates it offered to other large distribution partners with whom it completed successful negotiations in earlier this year,” the Irving-Texas based company said.
“Nexstar routinely reaches amicable retransmission and carriage agreements with its cable, satellite, and telco partners—in the last three years alone, the company has successfully completed agreements with more than 500 distribution partners,” company officials said.
Both area television stations also posted statements on their websites asserting Fios is at fault.
“Despite our tireless efforts, Verizon FiOS has refused our fair offer and is making negotiations very difficult,” the stations said. “You may have seen them do this before. They will tell you it’s for your benefit, but don’t believe it. Our offer is fair. And now they hold you the subscriber hostage. It’s not right.”
Last week, Optimum — one of the largest cable providers in New Jersey — and FOX reached a last-minute agreement to avoid having FOX-5, FOX-29, Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Fox Sports 1 and 2 and the Big Ten Network being pulled from its systems.

If you're a customer of Verizon Fios and want to watch shows like "Stargirl" or "The Winchesters" on Channel 11, you're out of luck.
WPIX-TV went dark on Fios' system at 11:59 p.m. Friday after Fios' contract to carry the local television station expired. Both sides, Verizon and station owner Nexstar Media, are blaming the other for taking the station off the channel lineup.
The channel remained dark on Monday. "We're disappointed to share that we have not been able to reach an agreement to carry Nexstar's programming on this channel," a message states.
Nexstar said customers in some markets will lose access to college and NFL football games, as well as entertainment provided by the CW Network, and local news.

"Following Verizon Fios' actions, subscribers in 10 Nexstar markets, including New York City, Philadelphia, Providence, and Buffalo, have lost access to thousands of ours of vitally important local news, just as the country prepared to hold mid-term elections that could determine the balance of power in Congress and the winter storm seasons hit," the company said in a statement.
For its part, Verizon said it offered Nexstar an extension while negotiations continue, a move that would keep the channel on the lineup, but it was refused.
"Our offer to extend stands; if Nexstar wishes to accept an extension, we can restore signals while the parties continue to negotiate so that customers can access content from Nexstar channels," Verizon said in a statement on Monday.
Last week, Verizon said Nexstar proposed charging more than 64% more for its programming. "Verizon remains committed to making these channels available to our customers, but simply cannot agree to such unreasonable increases," the company said.
In its statement, Nexstar said it has reached agreements with more than 500 program distributors in the last three years.
