Families with 17 marks or less (formerly 15 marks or less) out of a maximum 52 marks have been classified as BPL. The State government has decided to simplify the guidelines for identifying a family as below the poverty line (BPL) family. A total of 60 lakh BPL families will benefit from the move, for which a sum of Rs 1,200 crore will be allocated. BPL stands for Below Poverty Line.
