As per the Emigration Act, 1983, Emigration Check Required (ECR) categories of Indian passport holders, require to obtain "Emigration Clearance" from the office of Protector of Emigrants (POE), Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs for going to following 18 countries. All holders of Diplomatic/official Passports, No separate document is required. It is a very important travel document and it is even more important to know about the two categories of Indian passport. For passport before Jan 2007, it used to be a stamp , for latest passports you will find the text written/endorsement in the address page of the. In ECR passport, one stamp will be inside on your passport page. The Indian passport is divided into two categories known as Emigration Check.
