Intel platforms use Intel FirmWare Image (IFWI) which in addition to SBL firmware includes other firmware components to boot. It is a type of Firmware used during the booting process (power-on/start up) on IBM PC compatible computers. Okay lets get the definitions first, Firmware: Firmware is programming that's written to the read-only memory ROM, of a computing device. As others already stated, BIOS is the specific name for the (motherboard) firmware in older PCs. IFWI can be found either at BIOS or Engine region of Flash Descriptor; Reserved1 region at Flash Descriptor is now called Device Expansion.
