A laboratory technician is a person who works in a laboratory performing procedures, maintaining equipment, assisting lead scientists with their work. Lab technicians are skilled workers that work with complex systems or perform highly technical mechanical or diagnostic tests in medical or scientific laboratories. A lab technician collects and processes specimens, including skin and bodily fluid samples, from patients in a hospital or private medical diagnostic laboratory. Technicians may help by preparing specimens and operating automated sample analysing machines, setting up testing equipment, keeping the lab clean, maintaining tools and conditions etc. Hospitals and doctors' offices depend on the important work of medical lab technicians. Laboratory technicians are the backbone of a scientific research lab.
