What is Primary Amoebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM)?

PAM starts with symptoms similar to meningitis but quickly worsens. That’s why many doctors confuse it in the early stages. The term is used in medical reports instead of “brain eating amoeba disease.”

PAM is the official name of the disease caused by Naegleria fowleri. It means inflammation of the brain and meninges due to amoeba infection. It is very rare but almost always fatal.
