What is the meaning of multinational company?

A multinational company is a business that works in many countries. It is not just in one place. The main office, the 'headquarters', is in one country. We call this the home country. But the company also has offices or factories in other countries. These are host countries.

For example, a company from America like Coca-Cola sells drinks everywhere in the world. They have buildings in many places. Or from my country, France, a company like L'Oréal sells makeup in America, in Asia, everywhere.

So, it is a company with a global business. It operates internationally, not just locally. The name helps to understand: 'multi' means 'many' and 'national' means 'country'.
