Interestingly, Wybie was created specifically for the film; he isn't in the book. He is the landlady's grandson. Wybie begins as Coraline's quirky, slightly annoying neighbour. He soon becomes her first real friend in her new home, and a crucial ally in her fight against the Beldam.
