You can find the official streaming of the song below.

Yen is a song about a deadly sacrifice. As we already saw analyzing the previous single, Slipknot’s new album is about the end of the world and the symbolic death of all of us. In this song, the singer gives himself up and seeks death, intending to make it meaningful.

If the perspective is to end your life in the most meaningful way, the singer looks at it with important expectations. He’s really waiting for it. Because in a world that will end, the best you can do is give purpose to your end.

You’re the sin that I’ve been waiting forThe hands around my throat, it’s all I can think aboutThe Smell of Sweat and BloodI would feed you all my pleasures just to drown in all of yours

The protagonist wants to dedicate his existence to this final act of death. As in The Dying Song, Slipknot acknowledged that the world has no longer reasons to live. Thus fighting is meaningless. The end is coming, and he wants to experience it as a crucial moment of his life.

As the knife goes in- cut across my skinWhen my death begins I want to know that I was dying for youI died for you

There is a sense of justice in dying with a purpose. And in the middle of the song, the singer wonders if his death will be the same as anyone else or if the entity who kills him will remember him as someone special.

Show Me All The Deaths Are The SameShow Me You’ll Remember My Name

The lyrics inside Yen hide a relevant meaning. In a decadent world, we stop fighting while the end is approaching. And we do the only thing that makes sense: entrust our death to someone worthy. There is no reference to who this entity might be, but we know that it implies pain and blood. After all, in Slipknot’s eyes, we left nothing good in this world.

You’re the sin that I’ve been waiting forThe hands around my throat, it’s all I can think aboutThe Smell of Sweat and BloodI would feed you all my pleasures just to drown in all of yoursHave you heard of me… are you hurting me…?Let me savor what I’m waiting for, a chance to make me chokeYou’re all I can think about… the Taste is Red and RustCan I hold you in my mouth until I fade into this form? Can you cover me… will you breathe for me…?

As the knife goes in- cut across my skinWhen my death begins I want to know that I was dying for youI died for youAs the knife goes in- cut across my skinWhen my death begins I want to know that I was dying for youI died for you

Don’t know what has happened yet, a surge of panicked zealWorry when it’s not effect- this game is fine by meAll the words for retribution only add up to revengeOverpower me…. And devour me…

As the knife goes in- cut across my skinWhen my death begins I want to know that I was dying for youI died for youAs the knife goes in- cut across my skinWhen my death begins I want to know that I was dying for youI died for you
