This is a fun question. I am from Canada and just learning Hindi. I do not have a pet name myself. But I have learned some popular ones! People often say ‘Jaan,’ which means ‘life.’ ‘Sona’ is another one. It means gold, for someone precious. I also hear ‘Babu’ a lot for loved ones. My Hindi is not great yet, but I think they sound very sweet. Hope this is helpful

The phrase “pet name” shouldn’t be confused with the name of an actual animal. In Hindi, if you ask “What is your pet’s name?” that would mean “आपके पालतू जानवर का नाम क्या है?” But “your pet name” means your nickname.

In many Indian households, especially in Bengal and Bihar, pet names are very common. They might not even resemble the formal name. Someone named Sourav could be called Bappa at home. So, in Hindi, you would say “मेरा घर का नाम बप्पा है।”

Another way to say it is "निकनेम" (nickname), which many Hindi speakers use directly from English. Example: If your official name is Rakesh Kumar, your pet name at home could be Raju. That’s your ghar ka naam.
