Elsewhere, the life of beloved character Judith Grimes was left hanging in the balance, but will she survive?

The final season of The Walking Dead is arriving via Star on Disney Plus throughout October and November.

While next week’s finale will be the last ever episode of The Walking Dead, fans do have the spin-off titled The Walking Dead: Dead City to look forward to, which will see the return of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Meanwhile, Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead will also continue building out this fascinating post-apocalyptic universe.

But for now, when is episode 24 of The Walking Dead season 11 set to land? Read on to learn everything you need to know about the release schedule for The Walking Dead.

The release schedule for The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 is as follows:

This is the final part of the 11th season with Rest in Peace set to draw the entire series to a close on Monday 20th November in the UK.

Thankfully, fans have films and spin-offs to look forward to - including one focused on longtime favourite Daryl Dixon.

The Walking Dead writer and producer Scott M Gimple told Total Film: “Daryl is a fish out of water to start with . If Daryl finds himself with new people, he’s a fish out of water.

"In France, in a country that’s going through the apocalypse, an entirely different thing. He finds himself having to reinvent himself again, having to find himself again, and also, not being with – probably – the only people in the world he’s comfortable with.”

The Walking Dead season 11 episode 24 will air on Monday 20th November 2022 in the UK (via Disney Plus).

The episode is ominously titled 'Rest in Peace' and, as the final episode of the series, will likely lead into the spin-off series centring on Daryl (Norman Reedus), and also one focused on both Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

Season 11 of The Walking Dead started airing on 23rd August 2021 in the UK, one day behind the US. The season then took a break after 8th October 2021, before returning for more zombie action and drama in episode 9 on 21st February 2022.

That block of episodes drew to a close on 11th April, and since 3rd October we've now launched into an eight-episode stretch that will culminate in the series finale.

The Walking Dead is available to watch now on Star on Disney Plus, with episode 21 premiering on 31st October 2022. Sign up to Disney Plus for £7.99 a month or £79.90 a year.

Fear the Walking Dead is the first spinoff series from the flagship series of TWDU. Set in the same world as TWD, Fear TWD is set in different areas of the United States with a different cast of characters. This series will premiere its eighth and final season on AMC+ on May 11 and on AMC on May 14 at 9 p.m. ET. Original cast member Kim Dickens has reprised her role as Madison for the last season, and the story will see our survivors discover the long-sought-after organization, PADRE.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is the first direct spinoff of The Walking Dead that will feature Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). These two characters were leads in the main series and find themselves on a journey to Manhattan to search for Maggie’s missing son Hershel. Manhattan is overrun by a horde of walkers 1 million strong, and the city has been cut off from the mainland since early in the outbreak. This series will premiere on AMC+ and AMC on June 18 at 10 p.m. ET.

Dead City actress Mahina Napoleon revealed in an interview that the series will begin filming a second season at the end of 2023.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will feature fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) as he arrives on the shores of France with no recollection of how he arrived or what his purpose is. He will make plans to make his way back home, but people he encounters along the way make his task difficult. This series will release sometime in the second half of 2023.

Recent reports and posts on social media from cast members indicate that Daryl Dixon is currently filming for a second season. This hasn’t been confirmed by AMC. Another rumor tied to the series is that fan favorite Melissa McBride could return for this second season, another rumor that hasn’t been confirmed.

The series, known as Summit, working title, will see the return of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) as they make their way back to one another. Described as an epic love story, this series began filming in February 2023 but won’t be released until 2024.

The only additional casting announcement for this series has been that of Lucifer actress Lesley-Ann Brandt. Jadis actress Pollyanna McIntosh has been seen on the set of Summit.

The Walking Dead season 11 finale spoilers follow.

After 177 episodes and countless zombie casualties, The Walking Dead is no more. Well, the main show, at least. Beyond the final episode, titled 'Rest In Peace', some of your favourite survivors are going to do what they do best still, and that's survive.

But why did The Walking Dead shuffle off our screens in the first place? And when is Dog going to get his own spinoff show? Here's everything you need to know about life after death where The Walking Dead franchise is concerned.

The Walking Dead won't be getting a twelfth season, but we've known that for quite some time now. Way back in September 2020, AMC announced that the end was nigh, although they did add extra episodes to the final season, bumping the final chapter up to an unprecedented twenty-four episodes.

The Walking Dead chief content officer Scott Gimple explained in a statement that the flagship show will end to make way for new stories:

"We have a lot of thrilling story left to tell on TWD, and then, this end will be a beginning of more Walking Dead — brand-new stories and characters, familiar faces and places, new voices, and new mythologies. This will be a grand finale that will lead to new premieres. Evolution is upon us. The Walking Dead lives."

It sounds like AMC and the crew came to an amicable agreement, deciding together that this was now the perfect time to end the show. That makes a lot of sense given how long The Walking Dead has been on the air. Very few scripted shows have carried on beyond 177 episodes, so it's better to go out when there's still some demand rather than wait until everyone's given up on the series.

This also wouldn't be the first time that a show has ended to help set up brand-new spinoffs. Power did the exact same thing just recently by commissioning four extra shows that expand the original Power universe.

Ratings probably weren't a huge factor here, because they alone weren't bad enough to warrant the cancellation, despite a drop in recent years.

The Walking Dead premiered to 5.35 million viewers in 2012 with one of the largest debuts in cable history, and at its peak, 17 million people watched the show live. Halfway through season three, The Walking Dead enjoyed a run of 75 consecutive episodes with more than 10 million same-day viewers, which was practically unheard of back then, and especially now.

Since then, season ten ended up with the show's lowest ratings ever, drawing in just three to four million people watching live. But when you combine that with global audiences and catch-up TV, The Walking Dead has still been performing at a high level, and this kind of erosion is natural in the age of streaming anyhow.

That's why we wondered if there might be more to the story behind this cancellation than we first realised, and it now looks like that could be the case...

During a recent chat with Collider, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan), suggested that Gimple and showrunner Angela Kang were actually quite taken aback by the announcement:

"The news, when we got it in the middle of the pandemic, was a complete surprise, not only to me and the rest of the actors, but to everybody involved in the show from production. Scott Gimple and Angela Kang had no idea either."

"It came from nowhere and there was such a huge pivot," adds Morgan. "I think they had Season 11 all mapped out, where they were going to go, and suddenly it became, 'We also have to close the story, in a way.' It took everybody by surprise, so it was a massive pivot. And then, they threw in the six tacked-on episodes to season 10, and instead of doing 16, we’re going to do 24 more. There was a lot of stuff to wrap our heads around."

Whether Gimple and Kang ultimately agreed with this decision isn't clear, but it doesn't seem like the show ended entirely on their terms, which essentially means The Walking Dead didn't just end. It was in fact cancelled, after all.

Morgan was of course surprised by the cancellation too, and in this same interview, he mentions how surreal it is to not go back and film a season 12:

"It’s fucking surreal as hell to think that this will be the last bit of it. It’s become such a part of my life, and a part of everyone’s life that’s in the show, that it’s hard to reconcile the fact this will be over in a year from now. Well, in fact, I will still be here a year from now, but you know what I mean. There’s not a season 12. It’s very weird… So, in a nutshell, I’m not thinking about the end yet, although it’s back there. We still have a lot of story to tell."

But have no fear, because Morgan is right. There is "a lot of story to tell" still.

First up is The Walking Dead: Dead City, formerly known as the Maggie and Negan spinoff.

This six-episode series will take place 12 years after the apocalypse, and a few years after The Walking Dead finale as well. Due in April 2023, the show will follow Maggie and Negan in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, which has long been cut off from the rest of the mainland.

Showrunner Scott M Gimple has teased that, "It's a madhouse... There's a lot of conflict. There's a lot of action. There are zip lines, the walkers are insane."

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be joined by the following cast members:

• Gaius Charles as Perlie Armstrong• Željko Ivanek as The Croat• Jonathan Higginbotham as Tommaso• Mahina Napoleon as Ginny•Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano• Karine Ortiz as Amaia

And that's not the only spinoff shuffling our way either.

Daryl's story will continue in a new show too, as hinted at in The Walking Dead's final scenes when he drove off in search of Rick Grimes. Originally, Carol was supposed to be joining him, but Melissa McBride pulled out of the project not long after it was announced.

An official statement explained that: "Melissa McBride has given life to one of the most interesting, real, human and popular characters in The Walking Dead Universe. Unfortunately, she is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spin-off focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year."

"Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time," it continues. "We know fans will be disappointed by this news, but, The Walking Dead Universe continues to grow and expand in interesting ways and we very much hope to see Carol again in the near future."

That sucks for Daryl, because he's going to need all the help he can get. It turns out that Dixon will end up in France where he will encounter the fast, smart zombies previously teased at the end of The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

Chief content officer Scott M Gimple teased how this will play out while speaking to Talking Dead: The Walking Dead Universe Preview 2022 (via ComicBook):

"Daryl is a fish out of water to start with. If Daryl finds himself with new people, he's a fish out of water. In France, in a country that's going through the apocalypse, an entirely different thing. He finds himself having to reinvent himself again, having to find himself again, and also, not being with – probably – the only people in the world he's comfortable with."

It doesn't look like Daryl will end up finding Rick and Michonne though, because they're too busy starring in their own six-part series that will replace the movie trilogy previously announced a few years back.

Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira's reunion onscreen will be an "epic love story", as teased already by their surprise return in The Walking Dead finale. In that cameo, they're not actually together in person yet, but that will soon change when the show airs some time in 2023.

As if that wasn't enough, both Fear The Walking Dead and Tales of the Walking Dead are available to watch too, as well as the YA miniseries The Walking Dead: World Beyond. And no, Dog doesn't have his own spinoff yet, despite our constant emails to the AMC office. Give him a whole movie, damnit.

The eleventh and final season of The Walking Dead, an American post-apocalyptic horror television series on AMC, premiered on August 22, 2021, and concluded on November 20, 2022, consisting of 24 episodes. Developed for television by Frank Darabont, the series is based on the eponymous series of comic books by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. The executive producers are Kirkman, David Alpert, Scott M. Gimple, Angela Kang, Greg Nicotero, Joseph Incaprera, Denise Huth, and Gale Anne Hurd, with Kang as showrunner for her third and final season. The eleventh season has received positive reviews by critics.

This season adapts material from issues #175–193 of the comic book series and focuses on the group's encounter with the Commonwealth, a large network of communities that has advanced equipment and over fifty thousand survivors living in their settlements. Additionally, the season also focuses on the group's confrontation with the Reapers, a mysterious faction of hostile survivors that attacked and took Meridian, the former home of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and her new people, the Wardens.

The eleventh season features twenty-three series regulars overall. Callan McAuliffe and Cooper Andrews are added to the opening credits after previously being credited as "also starring". Beginning with episode 17, Eleanor Matsuura, Lauren Ridloff, Cailey Fleming, Nadia Hilker, Cassady McClincy, Angel Theory, Paola Lázaro, Michael James Shaw, Josh Hamilton, and Laila Robins are added to the opening credits after being credited as "also starring".

The series was renewed for an eleventh season in October 2019. The eleventh season was officially announced on September 9, 2020, as the final season with Angela Kang serving as showrunner. In July 2020, AMC announced that season 11 would not premiere in October 2020 as planned due to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2014, executive producer David Alpert said that the comics have given them enough ideas for Rick Grimes and company over the next seven years. "I happen to love working from source material, specifically because we have a pretty good idea of what season 10 is gonna be," Alpert said. He continued by saying: "We know where seasons 11 and 12 ... we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we're lucky enough to get there." In September 2018, AMC CEO Josh Sapan further clarified Alpert's statement, saying the network plan on continuing The Walking Dead as a franchise for another 10 years, including new films and television series based on the original comic book series.

AMC confirmed in September 2020 that the series would conclude with the eleventh season, covering 24 episodes over a two-year broadcast period, at the same time as announcing a spinoff series involving the characters Daryl and Carol, set to start airing in 2023. In April 2022, the project was retooled to be entirely Daryl-focused, and McBride departed the project. The series is set and to be filmed in Europe in mid-2022, which would make it logistically untenable for McBride.

In March 2020, it was reported that pre-production had been halted and that filming would be delayed three to four weeks also due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming for the final season began in February 2021 and was completed in March 2022. The series moved from shooting on 16 mm film to digital beginning with the six bonus episodes from season 10. This change was prompted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and safety precautions with there being fewer "touch points" with digital than film. Showrunner Angela Kang stated they would use post-production techniques to maintain the look of the series. During filming in March 2022, Norman Reedus suffered from a concussion on set, which pushed back filming of the show's final episode.

In October 2019, Lauren Cohan was confirmed to be returning to the series as Maggie, after being absent since early in the ninth season. Cohan officially returned to the series near the end of the tenth season. In July 2020, Margot Bingham was confirmed to reprise her role as Stephanie for this season; she previously appeared in season 10 in a voice-only role. In March 2021, it was announced that Michael James Shaw had been cast in the series regular role of Mercer. In April 2021, Jacob Young was cast as Deaver, a member of the Reapers. In September 2021, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's 11-year-old son, Gus Morgan, made a cameo appearance in the fifth episode as a featured walker.

The final season, titled "The Final Season Trilogy", premiered on August 22, 2021, on AMC and contains 24 episodes that split into three eight-episode airing blocks, with the series concluded on November 20, 2022. It also premiered a week early on August 15, 2021, on AMC+ and each episode of the season was made available a week before its broadcast date, excluding the final episode. In the UK and Ireland, the season debuted on August 23, 2021, on Disney+ via its Star hub. The first nine episodes were all released on Disney+ in Denmark via Star on February 21, 2022.

The eleventh season of The Walking Dead has received generally positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the season holds a score of 80% with an average rating of 7.02 out of 10, based on 237 reviews. The site's critical consensus reads: "While the sense of finality is diminished by the promise of even more spinoffs, The Walking Dead's eleventh conclusion is a solid enough conclusion to an epic tale of zombies that never had a clear offramp to begin with." Paul Dailly of TV Fanatic gave the first two episodes 4.5 out of 5 stars, calling the episodes "dark, filled with stakes and nail-biting moments". Writing for Forbes, Erik Kain gave the two-part premiere a positive review and considered them "a pretty damn impressive introduction to Season 11" and that they have him "excited for what's to come". In contrast, Kirsten Acuna of Insider wrote a slightly less positive review, stating that the episodes are "decent" and "satisfying, but it doesn't feel like a big-budget premiere" that she was hoping for.
